Cedar Valley Woodcarvers have annual show.

The Cedar Valley Woodcarvers (CVWC) held their 36th annual Art of Woodcarving show at the National Czech and Slovak Museum, Cedar Rapids, Iowa on 

March 1 and 2, 2025. The show has met with continued success in advancing the art of both woodcarving and woodturning thanks to the hard work of the 

members. The show’s chair-committee members were Kayla McPherson, David Steil and Don Lund.

There were 90 entries in the competition in 37 different categories. Denny Evans and Carol Leavy were judges for the show.

The best show was won by Kay Lund with a chip-carved kaleidoscope. The first runner up was won by Julio Martinez with a miniature rhinoceros. The second

 runner up was Sue Orth with a stylized pheasant.  Best Instructor-assisted went to David Steil for his American kestrels. 

Best Turning was an Abstract Burl by Brad Davis

We honor one of our members in memory of one of our own carvers.  Annually we give the Harold Davis Award to a member who has given a lot to our club and to the hobby of carving.  Nominations are made to the Board by the membership and the board votes on the winner.  

Beginning with the 2019 year, we have renamed the award to the Kirt Curtis Award.
