Universidad Politécnica de Madrid
I am a Full Professor in the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Automatic Control Engineering and Applied Physics at Escuela Técnica Superior en Ingeniería y Diseño Industrial, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and the Associate Vice-Rector for Entrepreneurship at UPM. I am research member at Centre for Automation and Robotics (UPM-CSIC)
I hold the intellectual property of five patents—one of which has been internationally licensed—and have published over 100 articles in high-impact journals, conferences, books, and book chapters. I have supervised more than 130 undergraduate and master’s students, and 10 Ph.D. theses (9 of which are currently ongoing).
In 2014, I received a national award for best technological innovation in the medical field. I have been actively developing medical technologies that leverage machine learning techniques to support the diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, as well as other sensorimotor disorders. I am also the founder and advisor of a spinoff company, Aura Innovative Robotics, created to transfer patented medical technologies to industry.
Additionally, I serve as an expert evaluator for the European Commission in both the Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe programs (2016–present), focusing on research and innovation projects in the areas of robotics and artificial intelligence.
My primary research interests include telerobotics, assistive robots, control of multi-agent systems, and medical devices. I am currently working on robotic systems for low-gravity environments.
