Until the 19th century, the world's tallest building did not exceed 160 meters. Contemporary buildings, by contrast, will soon reach one kilometer. Many factors contributed to this remarkable advancement. Particularly noteworthy is the revolution of structural engineering, which provides engineers with mathematical models that can be used to construct structures with the desired stability and strength. We think that the field of human choice design is ripe for a similar revolution.
