Not sure about project sponsorship and mentorship? Consider assisting during industry professionals days, answering discussion board questions, giving a guest lecture, and/or evaluating and providing feedback on the teams' design presentations. This page offers an overview of these other ways to be involved with the capstone course.
The capstone advisory panel evaluates and provides feedback to students during their end of term presentations.
Panels of 2 to 3 professionals are typically assigned to review 5 to 6 design presentations. In March, the teams will present their design proposals to the panel. In June, the teams will present their final designs to the same industry panel.
Panelists provide feedback on the group presentations, designs, and design drawings. This feedback is incorporated into the students' designs, and the panel evaluations are considered in grading.

During Industry Professionals Days, practitioners provide design guidance to students in discipline-specific help sessions. Help session topics may range from more general (e.g., important considerations when defining project scope, objectives, constraints, and design alternatives) to very specific (e.g., recommended reference documents or software).

Through discipline-specific discussion boards, students can pose questions to practitioners at any time during the design process. The format also allows professionals to browse posts and respond to student questions when most convenient.

We welcome guest lectures and panel discussions on a variety of professional practice topics. Past guest panels have included diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and on-the-job experiences from young professionals.
