CD & You Tutoring Services is designed for all learners in grades 5-12. At CD & You Tutoring we believe that all students can grow and succeed. In today's highly competitive 21st century learning environment, having strong literacy skills is critical. With our support, students will learn a variety of strategies and habits of mind that will make them more thoughtful readers, effective writers, and critical thinkers. When you decide to work with CD & You, your student gets the opportunity to work with two highly certified educators who have advanced reading and literacy degrees. What sets CD & You apart from other tutoring services is that your student will receive highly personalized instruction, no generic or scripted programs, and instruction that is designed and delivered by two passionate educators who are personally invested in your student's growth.
Listed below are the foundational components of our tutoring services.
5 Pillars of Reading
An effective reader shows competency in the five pillars of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Our instruction will blend these five pillars, along with writing elements, to develop high level literacy skills.
Personalized Instruction
We will first start designing instruction by getting to know your student's personal interests. By choosing topics of interest, your student will be more engaged and invested in the program.
We will also target your student's areas of growth and continue to develop their strengths.
Before our first tutoring session, we want to get to know you, your student, and his/her academic goals.
Research-Based Practices
"There is no single instructional program or method that is effective in teaching all children to read. Rather, successful efforts to improve reading achievement emphasize identification and implementation of evidence-based practices that promote high rates of achievement when used in classrooms by teachers with diverse instructional styles with children who have diverse instructional needs and interests" (Bond & Dykstra, 1967/1997, as cited in International Reading Association, 2002).
Through our graduate courses in reading and literacy instruction, we recognize the value of implementing strategies that are evidenced based.
Explicit Instruction in Reading, Writing, Technology, and Speaking/Listening skills.
Literacy instruction in the 21st Century is more than just learning how to be a more effective reader. Your student will become more well rounded and a more critical thinker because we design our instruction by connecting and blending multiple modes of literacy.
With two certified reading specialists, your student will receive explicit modeling of skills and multiple opportunities for practice. During each session students will receive actionable feedback that will help them progress through the learning process.
