Take a journey back to the mid-1960s as we explore how British bands took the American music scene by storm and influenced the cultural trends of the time. We’ll look at how groups like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and others shaped a generation and how American artists responded to this exciting musical wave. Together, we will listen to memorable hits from 1964 and 1965 and reflect on the impact they had on our lives and on music history.

Women artists who were not widely recognized in their time are now being rediscovered. Some, like Emily Mason, Sonia Delaunay, and Paula Modersohn-Becker, were known within art circles through their connections, but many were long overlooked. This program explores why and how they later became celebrated figures in art history.

What do you know about your eight great grandparents? Were any of them born in Ireland? Do you have Irish ancestors going further back? Half of the men who have served as US presidents did.
Having an Irish grandparent may entitle you to an Irish passport, which in turn opens up most of Europe to you in a new way.
With more and more genealogical records being available online, much of them free to search, it’s easy to start exploring your family tree. Once you go back a century, it gets particularly interesting: you could easily have 100 second cousins (people two generations down from your grandparents’ siblings), and there is a good chance that some of them have already constructed their family tree and shared it online.
From birth, marriage and death records, church records, the Social Securiy Death Index, cemetery records, census records, migraton records, and naturalization records, to military records, newspaper archives, high school year books, and prison records, there is no telling where you will find traces of family members who came before us. Such records could be Irish, British, American, or Canadian.
April 2026 is a particularly good time to explore, as the 1926 census for the Republic of Ireland will be made freely available.
This presentation will introduce participants the basics of starting research on Irish genealogy, and discuss the major free and fee-based resources available online and in Irish institutions.
