Take a journey back to the mid-1960s as we explore how British bands took the American music scene by storm and influenced the cultural trends of the time. We’ll look at how groups like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and others shaped a generation and how American artists responded to this exciting musical wave. Together, we will listen to memorable hits from 1964 and 1965 and reflect on the impact they had on our lives and on music history.

Can squares of all different sizes be combined into a single square?
The picture shown has nine different squares arranged as a 33 by 32 rectangle—a case of “close but no cigar”. Can we do better?
Can a square be cut up into triangles all of whose angles are less than 90 degrees?
Can a square be formed from a cut up 60-60-60 triangle?
How many cubes (of the same size) can be arranged so they all touch each other?
Can a straight hole be bored through a cube, through which another slightly larger cube can pass?
These are examples of simple thought-provoking questions about basic geometric shapes that can have non-intuitive and surprising answers. Some such questions have no known answers!
Please avoid doing web searches to seek answers. Our mantra is: doodle not Google!
Come to learn more about the fascinating and fun world of squares and cubes, expressed in simple, non-technical language. There are no mathematical prerequisites!

Is it finally time for the U.S. to formally abolish the penny, which costs more to make than its worth? Is it time to clean out our piggy banks and cash out our penny jars and once and for all say a tearful goodbye to the lowly penny?
The U.S. Mint stopped minting pennies in November but pennies will still be with us for years to come.
Join Jeff Milsteen for a light-hearted look at the history of the penny and the implications of relegating it to the change drawer of history!

It’s easy to arrange three identical coins so that they all ouch each other. What about four or five? Six? How many circles of width 1 can fit in a 10 by 10 square? What’s the most efficient way to stack oranges in a crate?
Which is smoother, Earth (minus water, with its high mountain tops and even deeper seafloor trenches) or a billiard ball?
These are examples of simple thought-provoking questions about basic geometric shapes that can have non-intuitive and surprising answers. Some such questions have no known answers!

Mesopotamia, meaning the land between the rivers, (Tigris and the Euphrates ) was a historical region in Southwest Asia primarily, modern Iraq known as the "Cradles of Civilization" for hosting the earliest complex societies and innovations as writing (cuneiform), the wheel, and the concept of time. Home to powerful civilizations such as the Sumerians, Akkadians, Babylonians and Assyrians, it saw the development of city-states, agriculture, monumental architecture and intricate systems of law and religion flourishing from the Neolithic period until the Arab conquest.
This lecture/video presentation will examine some the great art of Mesopotamia.

A cloistered Jesuit monk, Hopkins escaped through poetry into the realm of poetic transcendence. He invented "sprung rhythm" a meter previously unheard of, made up words, and so precisely imitated nature that his phrases spoke directly for it.
We will examine the major works, look into the methods, and feel, hopefully as deeply as he did.
