Local Attractions
August is a busy time for Indianapolis! The Indiana State Fair runs from August 2-18 and will mostly effect traffic near the fairgrounds at 38th and Keystone, some 4.5 miles north of Central Library. However, there will certainly be ripples downtown, where many people are likely to stay. The fair is best at night and the midway is open until 10:00 PM on weeknights, so it could be a great destination for night owls or folks who stay in Indy after the conference ends.
Both the Hyatt Place and Crowne Plaza hotels are about a mile from the Canal Walk, three miles of walkable waterfront which features several restaurants, paddle boats, and more. It skirts the Indiana State Museum, Indiana State Library, and Indiana Historical Society, so it's a great way to take in a number of downtown attractions.
If you are looking to do a bit of shopping, the Circle Center Mall in the center of downtown offers standard mall fair. For local establishments, head to Massachusetts Avenue just east of the library to buy gifts at shops like Silver in the City or pick out a treasure or two at the non-profit used book store Indy Reads Books.
The city has a thriving downtown with something to do at all hours, so we encourage you to explore.
Welcome to Indianapolis!
