CDIAA and its Board of Directors has the responsibility for
coordinating and promoting a structure and programs honoring Irish culture and history
managing our property on Ontario Street (including the central budget, the mortgage, and all insurances)
providing food and pub service with entertainment
organizing and developing fundraising activities for the Hall and community organizations
recruiting members for CDIAA
The CDIAA is an all-volunteer group. The activities are initiated and run by volunteers.
HISTORY
Historically the AOH (Ancient Order of Hibernians) owned and operated the Hall. In the late 1900‘s they set up the Hall Association to run the Hall and later asked the LAOH (Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians) to join them. They decided by 2002 to set up a separate entity, the Capital District Irish American Association (CDIAA) which had its own Board of Directors made up of representatives of the three organizations. The CDIAA was charged to own and operate the property including food and pub services as well as provide cultural and educational programs. This new corporation would provide a home base for both the AOH and the LAOH where the membership was also seen as members of CDIAA. Having acquired a 501-(C) 3 not-for-profit certificate CDIAA was in a favorable position for fund raising, both for the associations organizational needs and for charitable donations to the community.
