We are excited to introduce CDGC Singles for 2021. While similar to the 2020 Singles and Monthlies we ran, there is a unique aspect to this event. This is an individual/singles stroke play league that is both a handicap league and overall best score league. This will allow for players of varying skill to have a similar opportunity to compete. Payout will be split between both the handicap and overall leagues.

CDGC Singles occur every 2nd and 4th Saturday. We will play ONE round - typically at East Clayton Community Park, but might be held at other courses and/or temp courses. Layouts used will vary. Check our social media channels for more information on the layouts and venues prior to the events.

Leagues

Clayton Singles will consist of 2 concurrent point series seasons - one for the handicap league and one for the best overall score league . The ace pool will be shared with Clayton Saturday Doubles.

Entry Fee and Payout

Entry fee for Clayton Singles will be $5, including the ace pool. All of the entry fee ($5) minus ace pool (-$1) and PayPal G&S fees ($0.45) will be applied to payout ($3.55) and split evenly between the leagues. We will payout top 40% for each league.

Best Overall Score

Half of the overall payout will be applied to the best overall score payout schedule. Regardless of handicap, this will be awarded by the lowest overall score(s). This is a single division.

Handicap

Half of the overall payout will be applied to the best handicap score payout schedule. A handicap league applies a handicap to your score based on your skill (rating) and past performances - developing a handicap score. Winnings will be awarded by lowest overall handicap score(s). This is a single division. Example - you have a handicap of 3 and shoot a 53. Your handicap score will be a 50 (actual score of 53 minus your handicap of 3).

Calculating the Handicap

If you played during the 2021 Winter/Spring Singles season, we will carry over your handicap for the 2021 Summer/Fall Singles season.

For your first time playing, in order to accurately determine a handicap, you will be asked to provide your PDGA #, so we may determine a handicap based on that rating. Your handicap will be calculated by taking your rating, subtracting it from 1000 and dividing it by 10. This will round up to a whole number. EXAMPLE - if a player has a 945 rating, they will be given a 6 handicap (1000 minus 945 = 5.5 - rounded to 6).

If you do not have a current PDGA #, we will ask you to declare if you are an Open (3 handicap), Advanced (6), Intermediate (10), Recreational (15) or Novice (20) player. The number in parenthesis will be your handicap.

To determine your handicap throughout the season, will be applying your actual score to an SSE (Scratch Scoring Estimate - what a 1000-rated player would potentially score on the layout) and this will determine your handicap during each round. Based on past tournaments, we are using a 10 point per stroke scoring system. Below are our estimated SSEs for East Clayton Community Park.

  • Long tees/Original pins - 53

  • Long tees/Alt pins - 50

  • Short tees/Alt pins - 46

  • Short tees/Original pins - 47

  • All-Star tees/Original pins - 51

Your calculated handicap will be used for your first 3 rounds and your actual rounds will replace them, as you play Clayton Singles events. After 3 events, your Clayton Singles rounds will determine your handicap and this will be a fluid, based on the latest rounds you score.

Your handicap will be subtracted from your actual score and will result in your handicap score.

Your handicap will be posted in the standings, if you played a prior event(s), so you know your handicap before the next event.

Calculation Scenarios/Examples

Brandon is a 900-rated player per his PDGA rating. He has never attended Clayton Singles before. Brandon will be given a 10 handicap (1000 minus 900 - his rating - and divide by 10 = 10 handicap). In the first event, his handicap will be 10. Brandon shoots a 60 on the Long/Original layout, so his handicap score will be 50. For the next event, his handicap is 8 (5 for his actual round, 10 for his 2 calculated rounds based on his rating). Once he plays 3 events, the calculated handicap will disappear and use his actual rounds.

Jane is a 945-rated player per the PDGA. She has attended 3 Clayton Singles events and scored an actual score of 55 on Long/Original (1 handicap), 54 on Long/Alt (2 handicap), 51 on Short/Alt (3 handicap). Her handicap coming into today’s event is a 2 - average of the 3 score handicaps. Jane scores a 53 on the Short/Original, so her handicap score is a 51 for today's event. Jane's score today was a 4 handicap, so her new handicap is 3 (last 3 rounds average handicap).

Point Series

There will be a separate point series for Best Overall Score and the Handicap leagues. The top finishers in each league will win an award/trophy. During the Summer/Fall 2021 season, there will be 2 seasons, with a maximum of 9 events for each season. The top 5 events for each season will be applied to the point series standings.

Point Distribution for both Handicap and Overall Best Score leagues

  • +1 point for attendance of each round (the minimum points you may receive for attending is +1).

  • +0.25 points for each stroke under points par. Points par is 20 strokes above course par for each round.

  • +1 point for each player you defeat in regulation for each round (throw-offs for placement doesn't count).

  • +3 points for winning your division for the overall monthly

  • If your calculation nets a negative score, you will be provided a minimum of +1 score for attending. No point totals will be negative.
