A Community Effort to Maintain our Roads
Organize the community in maintaining the main roads servicing the Sierra Vista and Cottonwood Canyon areas
INTRODUCTION
We are so fortunate to live in this wonderful part of Maricopa county. Visitors always comment that the drive into our canyons is absolutely stunning. One of the reasons the drive is stunning is because of our paved road. Not only does do our roads improve our property values but it also provides a safe and efficient passage for emergency vehicles and keeps our cars and homes cleaner and free of dust. The association maintains the Sierra Vista Road from the Cave Creek Town line to the east gate (1.4 miles) and Cottonwood Canyon Road from the Sierra Vista Road intersection north to the gate (.26 miles).
Maricopa County does not maintain any portion of our roads.
If we do not provide maintenance the roads they will eventually deteriorate back to a dirt road.
100% of funds raised through this association are used for road surface repairs and replacement, roadside vegetation control, storm debris clean-up, and mailing costs. The association organizers volunteer their time to raise money and get repair bids. Over the years, so many people have contributed to build and maintain this precious asset that we call “our road” and it is our responsibility to maintain it.
ROAD HISTORY
Sierra Vista Road was created to access the Gold Reef Mine and later the Sierra Vista Dude Ranch. Sierra Vista Rd. and a portion of Cottonwood Canyon Rd. were paved years ago by the generous contribution of three individuals, one of which is Fred Rosenbaum who still lives here. Shortly after paving, the Cottonwood Canyon & Sierra Vista Road Association was started to organize the community in maintaining the road. Daily vehicle traffic and heavy equipment traffic for new home construction takes its toll on any road. Regular repairs and occasional repaving are needed to maintain road quality and safety.
CURRENT ROAD STATUS
Road repairs to Sierra Vista and Cottonwood Canyon were completed in early 2024. We settled for less than the needed repairs due to our financial situtaion. Approximately .25 miles of road north of the Cave Creek town line needs completely repaved. With the ever increasing cost of road work and our lack of funds we had to settle for a patch job at the most southern section of Sierra Vista Road.
As of March 1, 2025 the association has $73,633.84 in the bank
While this may sound like a lot of money, the amount in the bank now would not have covered the February 2025 patch repairs plus the recommended southern section repaving. Keep in mind that we also need a reserve to cover storm debris removal. Forecasting for what we anticipate is needed to maintain the road we have created the following suggested annual road contribution:
If you have a home here please contribute at least $950
If you own land with no home please contribute at least $650
If you have built since 2021, or are building a home now, please help repair the heavy truck damage with a one-time road fund contribution of $2,750 in addition to your annual contributions.
