Use of CCS Sports Uniforms
Cornerstone is not a large school but does have over half its students playing organised sport in any given year.
When placing students into teams we consider a wide range of needs for each year including Tournament teams, Social needs (an important focus), number of players, coach, and so on. We do our best to meet everybody's needs. If you want more information about your child's placement see the Extra-Curricular Sports Coordinator.
We try to accommodate all students into CCS teams, however, sometimes this is not possible so we have created this procedure to ensure that all children are catered for...
We ask our children who would like to play an Extra-Curricular sport or sports.*
We confirm with the parents that the children are able/allowed** to play the sport/s they have chosen.
From this list we form Cornerstone teams***, and assign coaches (which have sometimes already been prearranged)
If the numbers**** don't allow us to form a Cornerstone team, we ask the children if they would like to play a different Extra-Curricular sport for Cornerstone, again confirming with the parents that they are able/allowed to play.
If any child cannot be accommodated in a team because we are unable to form it and they really want to play the sport they originally selected, they will be given the option of going to our Sports Coordinator, Jannell Eade, who will make contact with the governing body, or another Primary or Secondary School, so that the child can play the sport they are keen on. Once initial contact is made it will be up to the parents to liaise with the other school.
The Principal will sign a letter that allows the child to play for that school in the local Competition. No child can have a letter signed who opted out at step 1 or 2.
There may be consequences from adhering to this procedure...
Due to our small size, sometimes our teams will have children of varying abilities.
Because we are a Christian School, sometimes people will look at us from a different world-view.
Sometimes, we may find ourselves in a completely new sporting situation.
All these scenarios, and more, create a great opportunity for children (and adults) to put into place our Cornerstone Values: Integrity, Kindness, Respect, Diligence and Humility.
* For children to play at representative level, they generally have to play for their school.
** Cost and Time are the main factors parents are consulted before we begin to form our teams.
*** At this stage we do our best to form teams. The reason why we must have a commitment from the child to play for the school is simply to ensure that all children at Cornerstone Christian School can have the opportunity of playing in an Extra-Curricular sports team. If children opted to play for another school, it could mean that other children, who wanted to play for Cornerstone in a particular sport may not have a team to play in. In a small school, this is a very real possibility.
**** There are 2 scenarios here; sometimes there are not enough children and sometimes there are too many. eg we could form 1 team but not quite 2.
The pressure on a small number of elite students to compete in multiple disciplines is a real issue at Cornerstone. While we encourage a range of pursuits, when it is at elite level, we put a lot of mental and physical pressure on our students that could be detrimental to their future enjoyment and/or welfare. This policy is so that everybody is on the same page when it comes to participating in senior team sports at Cornerstone.
1. Winter Sports season is Term 2/3
2. Summer Sports seasons are Terms 4 and 1
3. Senior A team students are expected to attend up to 2 senior sport trainings plus 1 game day per week during the season. If playing more than one senior sport, some leniency should be applied, which is negotiable between coaches.
4. If a student doesn’t train there needs to be a valid excuse or they don’t play or half game.
5. Students may also participate in a fitness training each week.
6. Pre-season training for the season may happen for each sport, but where a student is already committed to an “other-season” event, they may only participate once a week.
7. The two weeks before seasonal tournament, only that sport should be expected to practice.
8. Post tournament (end of season) focus can then turn to the next seasons sport.
While the costs of the regular season are set as generally sharing the total cost of the association fees, tournament costs tend to be a lot more complicated. Quite often Senior students will find they have the option of attending two tournaments in a year.
In setting this policy for Senior Students, consideration must be made that the Proprietor sets $1250 per annum cost to the student already, a number of Senior students would attend the Missions trip which costs them around $3000 and there are a number of senior activities such as Balls, dinners, etc which all bare a cost of some sort.
1. Sometime at the beginning of Term 4, coaches and students of all Senior Teams must make a decision as to whether they intend to apply to attend National Tournament for the following year or not. (obviously mainly the Year 11/12 students would be canvassed)
2. Where only one tournament will be entered for the year, organisation will be made by the Director of Tribes and Events with the team staying together, whether local or elsewhere and the costs handed on to the players a couple of months before tournament.
3. Where both winter and summer tournaments will be entered, one must be a local tournament where the team meets at school or the venue each day to eliminate accommodation and food costs, unless agreed upon by the whole team and their families to stay at an appropriate venue such as a house or school. This is merely so that the students still get the opportunity to attend their tournaments, but the financial costs are kept to a minimum.
4. There are other costs that must be borne by the students to attend tournament.
5. Each team must have a Manager and a Coach
Sports Awards will be held at the beginning of Term 4. It will include any teams/players in Terms 1, 2, and 3.
Children who pay and play extra-curricular sports for the school are the only recipients of these awards.
There are 3 or 4 awards given for each team that plays a sport, summer or winter.

Before children can play for a Cornerstone sports team they need to have paid their contribution that has been worked out for a team to enter a competition or event before it starts. This can be done by registering on MyKindo.
If you are issued with a CCS Sports uniform for use in an 'out of school' sport, you are responsible for keeping it clean, tidy and in good condition.
If you cannot return the uniform when required due to loss or damage, you will incur costs to contribute to the replacement of it.
Sports uniforms are ONLY to be worn to games where you are representing our school. They are NOT for use in the school playground.
If you have any questions please feel free to talk to Jannell Eade (Sports Coordinator)
