Studentships
There are several ways to join our group at the University of Manchester. This includes applying for our Msc programme, as well as our PhD programme.
The MSc programme information can be found here. In general this is a one year research focused masters degree. It is unfunded, so a student would normally have to fund this one year degree themselves.
Information on our PhD programme is here. PhDs are nearly always funded in various ways, including from STFC (42 months funded), and schemes within the University of Manchester, including the Chinese (CSC) Scholarship, the Presidential Scholarship and the Bull-Burnell Fellowship among many others. There is also a research/teaching scheme recently established whereby a student does a 80%/20% research/teaching split for 53 months (4 years, 5 months).
Here is also a page which explains some basic information on funding a PhD at Manchester. Here is a very general list of schemes available for PhD funding in physics and astronomy (note that not all of this would be appropriate to fund an astronomy PhD).
There is also a School of Natural Sciences Diversity Scholarships for UK, black heritage students.
