The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has welcomed the recently announced peace agreement between the US and Iran, describing it as an important step toward restoring maritime safety and freedom of navigation in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. In a statement issued on June 15, IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez said the agreement signals a return to diplomacy, dialogue and multilateral cooperation after months of conflict that disrupted one of the world's busiest shipping corridors.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has strongly condemned an attack on the tanker MT Settebello off the coast of Oman near the Strait of Hormuz, raising fresh concerns over maritime security in one of the world’s most critical shipping corridors. The vessel, sailing under the flag of Palau, reportedly came under a projectile strike, resulting in a fire on board. Three seafarers are currently reported missing, according to the IMO statement issued on June 10, 2026.
