Exploring the Roots of the Gender Wage Gap
One of the defining platforms of the 2016 presidential election was gender equality in the economy. We came very close to having our first female president and this was a central issue of her campaign. The discussion of the variability in wages among genders has long-standing roots in the establishment of our economy, but these differences cannot be traced back to a single cause. In the podcast, I will bring light to a few of the numerous causes and take a deeper dive into their existence. We will explore research by the most prominent thought leaders in this field including Francine D. Bluau, Lawrence M. Khan, and Violetta Khoreva. Some of the questions I will explore include what progress has been made in the last half century, what are some of the underlying causes, and what is the public’s perception of this problem. Narrowing the gender pay gap should be of the utmost importance to not only women, but everyone because equality between genders is one step closer to an equal economy. Stay tuned and listen to this podcast to broaden your knowledge of the state of our economy and the important role women play in achieving economic prosperity for all.
