OIL&GAS: CHALLENGES IN DEEP SEA PRODUCTION was an academic event held at the facilities of the Laboratory of Computing in Transport Phenomena - LCFT/ITA of the Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica - ITA on June 25, 2019, in São José dos Campos-SP. and aimed to create a suitable environment for the exchange of experiences between the academic and business sectors, as well as the exchange of information on the challenges in the production of Oil and Natural Gas in Deep Water.
As a special guest, we had the presence of Distinguished Professor Dr. Ashwani K. Gupta, Energy Specialist at the University of Maryland. Professor Gupta gave lectures on the topics Emerging Technologies for CO2 and H2S Separation and Fuel Property Effects On The Fate Of Volume Distributed Combustion, among other topics related to new forms of energy production and storage. Professor Ashwani Gupta is the author of over 700 articles, 3 books, 12 edited books, 12 book chapters, was an MIT professor for 6 years, is a Fellow of the AIAA/ASME/SAE/Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS), UK/ Inst. of Energy (IE), UK, in addition to having held numerous prominent positions in the administration of AIAA, ASME, among others, and serving as Editor-in-Chief/Associate in numerous international journals.
The SYMPOSIUM ON ENERGY CHALLENGES: Oil & Gas, Renewables, Alternative Fuels, Waste to Energy, Decarbonization is an academic event held at the Laboratory of Computing in Transport Phenomena (LCFT) within the Energy Competence Center (CCE) of the Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronautics (ITA). The objective of the meeting is to create a suitable environment for the exchange of experiences between the academic and business sectors within the scope of multidisciplinary platforms of simulation and high performance computing with a focus on Renewable Energies, Oil and Gas.
The first edition of the SYMPOSIUM ON ENERGY CHALLENGES will be held between the 22nd and 23rd of November 2017, at the LCFT Facilities, in São José dos Campos, SP. Applications can be made through the APG/ITA link, which includes coffee breaks and brunch for both days.
As a special guest we will have Professor Dr. Ashwani K. Gupta, Energy Specialist at the University of Maryland. Professor Gupta will give lectures on the theme "Waste to Energy" among other subjects related to new forms of production and storage of Energy.
The Symposium on Advanced Technologies for Energy Systems (SATES) is an academic event held at the Transport Phenomena Computing Laboratory (LCFT) within the Energy Competence Center (CCE) of the Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica (ITA). The objective of the meeting is to create an environment suitable for the exchange of experiences between the academic and business sectors within the scope of multidisciplinary platforms of simulation and high performance computing with a focus on Renewable Energies, Oil and Gas.
The first edition of SATES was held on October 19 and 20, 2017, at the LCFT Facilities, in São José dos Campos, SP.
Abstract: The advent of ever-more-powerful computing architectures that are faster and more heterogeneous in nature (accelerators, many-core, GPUs) and that require explicit memory management by the developer present significant opportunities to improve the level of resolution of fluid flows of interest. In addition, such awesome computing power allows us to explore complex design spaces and pursue both aerodynamic shape optimization and even multi-disciplinary problems. But extracting performance from new computing architectures is not trivial and requires sustained efforts from an interdisciplinary team of researchers that are knowledgeable in flow physics, computing science / HPC, and applied mathematics. This talk discusses our efforts at Stanford University and in partnership with many institutions around the world to develop a community, open-source code and framework named SU2 (su2.stanford.edu) with two flow solvers that incorporate the latest techniques in HPC, numerical methods, and flow models. The talk discusses the challenges of developing such a system, the improvements in performance that can be obtained from using modern computing architectures, and highlights some recent examples of supersonic aircraft shape optimization and the new Discontinuous-Galerkin higher order solver that can be used for large-eddy simulations.
