Project Board

General Information

Now that you've completed your research and conducted your science/engineering experiment, it is time to put all your information on the Digital Project Board. Please follow the directions listed below to complete this process. The Science Fair judges will review your project board on Friday morning. We will schedule an interview for you for the afternoon between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. The interview appointment will be scheduled once you submit your Digital Project Board and supplemental materials.

  • The digital project board should be 48" x 36" in size and made in Google Slides.

  • 2 slides are allowed per project.

    • The first slide is your actual project board.

    • The second slide may contain photos of your lab book (no more than four pages are allowed), link to your research paper, 2-minute video explanation of your project and 1-minute demonstration video.

    • If you choose to upload photos of your lab book pages be sure the photo quality is clear and readable.

  • A customizable Google Slides template is provided for you. Download Project Board Template here.

  • Fonts on the boards must be 18 point or larger.

  • Slides should NOT include animations or transitions.

  • Use a white or very light background with black or very dark font. Except for photo credits, don’t use a font smaller than 18 point.

  • If you use pictures, graphs, or charts, make sure they are relevant to your project, help you tell your story, and are clear and easy to understand.

  • Check your spelling! Yes, it’s important!

Required information to include on your project board:

  • Project Title and Number

  • The Question

  • Your Hypothesis

  • Research, notes or project background

  • List of materials (may not be needed for Behavioral and Math/CS projects)

  • Procedure, list of steps

  • Project results, including data

  • Conclusion

The following are NOT allowed on your project board:

  • Abstract

Supplemental Materials

Project Board Supplemental Materials

In addition to the Project Board, we would like you to provide:

  • a 2-minute video which summarizes the project. The video will be used for the public display of projects. It may also be viewed by the judges. If you go beyond the 2-minute allotment of time, we will not be able to use your video. The 2-minute video should include the following information:

    1. Introduce Yourself: Do NOT state your name or your school or provide any personal information. ONLY state your project number.

    2. Explain Your Project: Summarize your research into main points:

      • What did you do?

      • What did you find?

      • What conclusions did you draw?

    3. Team Projects: Each team member should record a portion of the 2-minute video, and then combine the three parts into one two-minute video.
      To note:

      • You can use any props or visuals you may have that are within the Display & Safety guidelines.

      • Do not include anyone in your video other than the student researchers of the project.

      • Do NOT mention your school name.

Other Optional Materials you may want to include when you upload your Project Board:

  1. Lab Notebook
Although not required, you may upload no more than four pages of a lab notebook to provide evidence of its use. These pages may be in jpg format. If you upload more than four pages, your Project Folder will not include the lab book pages. Be sure the four pages you submit are readable. If the judges have to struggle to read your submission, chances are that they will not bother.

  2. Research paper
While not required, you may upload your research paper with your project board and 2-minute video. Judges are not required to read the research paper, although it will be available to them in your project folder

  3. Video Demonstration/Simulation/Animation (1-minute maximum)
If the project is best explained by showing a demonstration, you may include a 1-minute video demonstrating how your project works. This video must meet all Display & Safety regulations. If it exceeds the 1-minute limit, we will not submit to the judges for review.
