Dr. Jiménez is a first-generation college student, and he grew up in a low-income household, on the south side of Chicago, Illinois. He was born and raised in Chicago. He grew up in public housing and lived on SNAP, when it was actually food stamps. Dr. Jimenez had many challenges in life, but he overcame those challenges with help. He believes education is the greatest equalizer and he wants you to succeed. He does his best to help people get to where they need to be because he believes in them. Remember, to get something you never had, you have to do something you never did.
Dr. Jimenez is an experienced educator with over 14 years of experience in higher education. He has implemented inclusive practices that promote diversity within Student Services. Dr. Jimenez has direct experience with career services, academic transition programs, student activities, counseling first-generation, low-income, and marginalized students. Dr. Jimenez has studied at Harvard University and New York University.
Dr. Jimenez currently serves as the Dean of Counseling and Guided Pathways at Compton College. He oversees the Counseling Department, Transfer & Career Center, Welcome Center, and the Call Center. Additionally, he is a founder of the Men of Color Action Network (MOCAN) and serves on their Executive Board. MOCAN is an active support network, which advocates for California Community College males of color, while focusing on the systemic (academic, political, social) change needed to cultivate a learning environment that optimizes the success of male students of color.
"Brandon Molina Berrios (Maya Kaqchikel) is a first-generation Indigenous scholar. He is the son of refugees from Guatemala and El Salvador. He was born and raised in the Harbor Area of Los Angeles. He is a product of the LA Unified School District and attended Los Angeles Harbor College, where he transferred to UC Riverside for his Bachelor's of Arts in Latin American Studies.
He is the first in his entire family to receive a college degree. His father is a construction worker, and his mother is a house cleaner and food vendor. He assists his mom's entrepreneurial spirit by helping her advertise her monthly tamale sales on Instagram.
Currently, he is a graduate student at Cal State Long Beach. In the Spring of 2024 he will receive his Master's in Education with an emphasis in Student Development in Higher Education. He currently works at El Camino College as a Student Success Coach and Student Success Coach at Long Beach City College's Career Center.
Patrosinio Cruz is a transfer student from Los Angeles Valley College and a recent Alumni of UCLA. He proudly represents high school dropouts and is a GED recipient. He currently works for Communities in Schools of Los Angeles where he is a Site Coordinator at Hamilton High School and works with a caseload of 50 students.
Victor is a first-generation college student from a low income/working class background. He is the son of a father from Yahualica, Jalisco, Mexico and a mother from Yauco, Puerto Rico. He is originally from Sacramento, CA and moved to San Diego at the age of 14. He moved to the LA area in 2005. His parents were farmworkers and he lived-in low-income housing for 10 years in San Diego. He has a BA from UC San Diego as a history major and minor in Political Science and a master's in public administration from the University of Washington.
He has experience working in the non-profit sector. He has worked with students from elementary age students to doctoral students. He has worked at San Diego Mesa College (EOP&S), UC San Diego (EAOP, graduate division-outreach), Cal State Fullerton (Department of Educational Leadership) and LA City College (Assessment, General Counseling).
He is a long active and on the board of directors for the non-profit Izcalli (www.izcalli.org), a San Diego based organization that provides cultural and arts programming from a Chicano/a/x and Indigenous perspective. He is a member/attends the East LA Men's Circle from the National Compadres Network. He is passionate about social justice issues and has an interest and history of involvement in electoral politics. He loves the game of baseball and is a avid Padres fan.
