There are many different forms of communication. If one were to use the same approach for all, we might not get the intended effect.
Communication can be broken down into many sub categories:
Sharing a team vision/goal/direction
Giving instructions
Conducting/guiding
Teaching/training
Facilitating a discussion
Settling conflict
Addressing a large audience
Addressing a small audience
Communication to teachers
As a leader, the responsibility to create the ideal environment for communication lies with you. In order to create the environment, you must first be aware of what are the areas within your control.
Watch the cooking video. Notice how did the chef controlled and shaped his environment, such that it made for such an interesting cooking video.
The areas of control by chef Ramsey:
Voice - He was loud and audible throughout, even against the background noise. He changed his tone throughout to show emphasis on different areas!
Energy - I'm sure you could feel his enthusiasm and excitement to cook and share his recipe.
Clarity - His instructions were clearer when he used short sentences. I'm sure you must have faced some difficulty understanding some of his longer sentences.
Visual environment - Teaching cooking in a kitchen. Ideal place.
Audio environment - All the background sizzling of the tomatoes in oil add help to create the perfect sensory experience to learn about cooking.
