Percorsi per Crescere (PpC) is a non-profit organization whose origins go back to a group of people who researched and studied children in the first three years of life. In the province of Varese (Italy) in the 1970's, PpC arose from the passion and knowledge of Grazia Honegger Fresco, a direct student of both Maria Montessori and Adele CostaGnocchi – and together in 1947 founded the Montessori Assistants to Infancy School (AIM) with the aim of observing the newborn, sensitive, active and able to communicate from the first moments of life.

With rigorous precision, this group has preserved the principles of the original Montessori Assistants to Infancy School, mainly through the experiences of training teachers and administrating many private and public 0-3 childcare centers in Northern Italy. At the same time, they have confronted these principles both practically and theoretically with contemporary studies, observations and contributions from many sources, for example (Name - Web resources):
After continuous and fruitful comparisons with those who have similar principles we found these to be the same:
- observe before intervening
- respect the initiative in the other person
- nurture the originality of every person from birth onwards
- do not train a person to do something, do not oblige a person to do something
- avoid any assistance that is not absolutely necessary and every form of competition
- refrain from judgement and coercive methods such as praise and punishment, grades, intimidation or personal belittlement
And to this end, we hold to be true that it is essential and urgent that we go back to our roots and the luminous intuitions of Montessori, to her operating instructions: put the scientific pedagogy into action.
Observe, verify and then theorize; welcome others without prejudice or diagnosis; respect each individual in his or her need to concentrate and to have freedom, because real socialization is only born from healthy, non-violent people, that which Montessori called a cohesive society. This has been our experiences from the very beginning and what we have learned from over 40 years as Percorsi per Crescere and more than 70 years as the Assistants to Infancy Montessori School (AIM).
