At the end of the course, you are expected to:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:
explain the communication process (theories/models and elements)
identify communication barriers in oral and written communication
explain the nature and importance of non-verbal communication in interpersonal communication
make notes from written sources and take notes from spoken sources
develop critical reading skills for academic texts and workplace documents
write for different audiences, purposes, and contexts (technical and business)
use appropriate writing patterns and paragraphing styles (e.g. the academic essay)
organise presentations using a variety of patterns (extemporaneous, impromptu, etc.)
use accepted citation and referencing conventions in APA/HARVARD/IEEE
incorporate and interpret visual forms of communication in oral presentations and written documents (technical and business)
