Our Roz has great perseverance. Perseverance is when you keep trying and never gives up.
How do you react when things feel hard? Do you have strategies that you use to keep going or push through these times?
Collaborator
One of the best actions is collaboration — working with others. We all have strengths and ideas to share. In The Wild Robot there are lots of times when the animals and our Roz work together. They Collaborate to help Brightbill.
Remember a time you collaborated with friends, classmates or family to complete a task. What did you work on? Was it successful? How did it make you feel?
Critical Thinker
Our Roz is an incredible critical thinker. She has faced one problem after another and rather than let an event break her, she analyzes the problem, asks questions, reflects on what’s working and what’s not. Roz’s willingness to try and to not be afraid of failing leads to her success in today’s chapters. It takes critical thinking to solve problems and it takes perseverance to keep trying – Roz never gives up!
Can you think of examples where Roz using her critical thinking skills in the book? What is one problem she solves using critical thinking?
Caretaker
Roz quickly learns how to become an excellent mother to Brightbill, the gosling. SHe built their Nest... and planted their Garden. Her gentleness, also, is being noticed by all the other animals and Roz begins making new friends.
Reflect on all the hard work your grownups do for you. What are some of the tasks they take on throughout the day to take care of you? How can you show your grownups that you love them and are grateful for all that they do?
Friend
The most important lesson Roz learns is that kindness can be a survival skill. And she uses kindness to develop friends and a family and a peaceful life for herself. Our Wild Robot causes the reader to consider that it isn’t a beating heart that gives us life. It is our friends, our loves, as well as our ability to learn, adapt, to be both WILD and refined.
Think of a good friend. When and where did you meet? What makes them a good friend?
