In January of 2020 the Friends of Caulms Wood group had the idea of creating an outdoor classroom space in the centre of the park. Formally a rose garden, the space was overgrown, disused and going to waste.
In February, the Transformers North group of volunteers tackled the growth and allowed access to a space that hadn't been used by people in many, many years.
In August, the Kumon Y'all young people joined us again to remove spring growth and allow access for the benches to be placed.
Stuart from Learning Landscapes in Leeds came over in mid September to place the hand-made benches and story chair.
A huge thank you goes out to the community who helped to fund the space, and to Kirklees Council's Growing Great Places scheme which gave us £1500 to create the classroom.
The Outdoor Classroom space is for everyone. A space to reflect on nature, to enjoy the great outdoors, to listen to the trees, the birds, to each other.
