VISION About LAB
Since ‘Epigenetics’ was defined, numerous biologists have elucidated the epigenetic mechanisms, which transduce the inheritance of gene expression patterns without altering the underlying DNA sequence. In addition to suggesting mechanistic insights such as chromatin stability, transcriptional silencing or histone modification and DNA methylation, epigenetics also have been leading a new paradigm by applying epigenetic mechanism medical research. Beyond the limitation of typical therapeutic approaches which focused on genetic alteration, epigenetic research has discovered the correlation between various epigenetic controller and human diseases. Followed by inhibitors of DNMT and HDAC protein, epigenetic therapies have showed the effect on human diseases such as cancer or metabolic disorders. Moreover, combination therapy of some epigenetic inhibitors has emerged as an effective solution of drug-resistant cancer cells. Our lab has been leading innovative epigenetic researches for investigating the gene regulatory mechanism and discovering the mechanism of human disease development including cancer. By applying advanced epigenome analysis such as ChIP-sequencing, RNA-sequencing or microarrays, we also perform genome-wide research to contribute the epigenetic understanding of human diseases.
