Description In this workshop, we will explore the quiet magic of natural plant dyes and how plants can transform an eggshell into a living color palette. Participants will experiment with dyes made from flowers, bark, leaves, and berries while learning how natural pigments behave when used with the traditional wax-resist method of Pysanky. Unlike synthetic dyes, plant colors produce soft, earthy shades of yellow, orange, red, green, and even blue—each egg becoming a unique reflection of nature.
During the class, we will work with a variety of prepared natural dyes, and Alona will show a short instructional video demonstrating how these dyes can be made at home. She will also share her personal research and experiments with plant dyes, including discoveries, surprises, and helpful tips for preparing natural dyes yourself. This workshop is perfect for those who enjoy experimenting with color, nature-inspired art, and discovering new possibilities within the traditional Pysanky technique.

Description This playful workshop transforms the meticulous art of traditional egg decorating into a spirited color playground. Rather than following rigid patterns, we embrace the "what if," experimenting with bold pigments, fluid blending techniques, and the magic of unexpected color reactions. Here, curiosity is your primary tool, and creativity guides every stroke and splash.
Using real chicken eggs and a specially curated palette of professional dyes, you’ll be guided by a video demonstration from Alona. She will showcase diverse techniques for creating organic bursts of color, ethereal transitions, and flowing, marbled patterns. Whether you choose to follow the demonstrated methods or invent your own "happy accidents," the focus remains on the joy of the process.
Included: Handouts, egg, video demonstration, and access to playground tools (pipettes, palettes, etc.).
What to Bring: Kistka, beeswax, and an extension cord.

Pysanka Pause:
Recharge Your Creative Spirit
While the focus of our workshop is the intricate and beautiful art of Pysanka, we believe that true creativity flourishes when the mind and body are in balance. Writing pysanky requires deep focus, steady hands, and hours of sitting—which is why we’ve designed Pysanka Pause.
Pysanka Pause is a curated series of restorative sessions intended to help you step away from the dyes and styluses to breathe, stretch, and reconnect. Whether it’s finding your flow in a morning yoga session, experiencing the ethereal vibrations of a floating sound bath, or celebrating tradition under the stars at our Flower Crown Workshop, these moments are your invitation to hit the "reset" button.
Why Join a Pysanka Pause?
Release Tension: Loosen up your shoulders and hands after detailed wax work.
Find Inspiration: Ground yourself in nature to bring fresh energy back to your designs.
Build Community: Connect with fellow artists in a relaxed, soul-nourishing environment.
Nourish the Self: Balance the "doing" of art with the "being" of mindfulness.
Take a break, find your center, and return to your egg with a clear mind and a refreshed spirit.
