Composer Nan Avant has written a gorgeous orchestral piece called "Tributum" featuring the Irish Uilleann and Scottish Highland pipes. It was beyond thrilling to play it with the Louisville Philharmonia Orchestra in July 2018. Record-setting heat had our pipers' hearts in our mouths (think "Braveheart" set somewhere in the Amazon jungle), but both sets of pipes hung in there! Highland Piper: Zac Meihaus; Bodhran: Adam Cecil.
In October 2017, I had the distinct honor of performing composer R. Daniel Holt's "A Celtic Mass" with the combined orchestras and choirs of Lambert High School and The Johns Creek (GA) United Methodist Church. What an incredible piece of music: it was the experience of a lifetime!
I am also privileged to be a member of the Central Kentucky trio "na Skylark." na Skylark focuses on Irish traditional/ period music from the pre-1900s, and is a listed artist with the Kentucky Performing Arts Council. We released our first CD in October 2017; you can stream it on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJ5PeY3ZTzU&list=PLlYbZWfW3LUiikHv4ypWpi21vTFTNJWjj).
Of course, we won't argue if you'd like to purchase a CD or download the album from iTunes, Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Old-Ceol-Na-Skylark/dp/B076M9MG1L) or at the CDBaby link above ... pipes always need reeds!
You can also find na Skylark on Facebook: @skylarkceltic; or on the Web: naskylark.band.
For more than 20 years I've played in a band named "Cloigheann," which mixes Bluegrass and Irish music into something called "greengrass." Bluegrass tunes on the Irish pipes? Ah sure, why not? Click the link, or visit our Facebook page: @Cloigheann. Band website: www.cloigheann.com
