Our overall Mechanical Design concept is a large net to catch the ball attached to a pitching machine style throwing mechanism.
This was a bastardized version of the first prototype by cutting off the motor mounting from the original and gluing on a new mounting solution that allowed us to vary the distance between the wheels.
Here we see an AutoCAD model of our final launcher and the finished product. The wooden wheel hubs were later replaced by aluminum hubs that allowed for concentric location and reduced vibrations
The finished robot: the launching mechanism detailed above mounted on top of a Pioneer 3 base with a net and cubby for a laptop.
