Meet the Sewing Instructors
Hello there! I'm Annie Knickerbocker, a lifelong lover of fabric and sewing. My passion for this craft was kindled at the tender age of five, sitting alongside my German Nonny as she patiently taught me the art of hand embroidery. My mother, a skilled garment maker, clothed my sisters and me in beautiful dresses for years, further fueling my love for sewing.
I pursued my passion academically, graduating from Taylor University with a BA in Fine Arts. I've had the privilege of teaching watercolor and quilting classes at a fine arts program associated with Spring Arbor University. I also had the delightful opportunity to sew display items for the Pieced Goods Store in Burton whenever a new shipment of fabrics arrived.
For over a decade, I managed the Husqvarna Viking inside JoAnn in Burton, Auburn Hills, and Flint. Selling sewing machines and teaching classes was not just a job for me, but a joy! From threading a machine and winding a bobbin to garment making, quilting, multi-colored embroidery, and beyond, the world of sewing is an exciting and rewarding one.
With a needle in hand since the age of 8, I began my sewing journey with tiny outfits for Barbie dolls and evolved into a lifelong passion for textile arts. Raised in the Appalachian Mountains - where quilting is a celebrated way of life - I learned by watching my grandmothers stitch together the stories of their community.
After years of garment sewing for my daughters and a prolific era of creating 1980s doll fashions, I turned my focus to quilting. Today, I am an avid quilter, a collector of vintage and antique textiles, and a creator of historical doll clothing.Â
I believe every quilt tells a story and am dedicated to helping students stitch theirs.
