A Wrinkle IN Time

A Wrinkle in Time has a very celestial feeling to it. I played with color to show contrast between the protagonists (cool colors) and the antagonists (warm colors).

The Murry Family

The Murray family was each given a distinct style but all have an element of purple. Purple is a cooler color to contrast the red, gray, and black of the antagonists.

Meg Murry

I gave Meg overalls and a flannel to show her spunky nature. This was also to show that she is still a young girl even though she has incredible responsibilities.

Charles Wallace Murry

Charles Wallace is given a patterned sweater and a purple bow tie to show his put together yet unique personality.

Calvin O'Keefe

Though not officially a Murry, Calvin is dressed in blue to stay within the cool color family. This shows that he has become part of their family.

Father & Mother

The Murry parents both have purple shirts and don a lab coat at different points in the show to portray that even if they are far from each other, they still are very devoted to each other and their work.

Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, & Mrs. Which

Each of the three witches had a different style based on a season. I wanted to show off their very distinct personalities while having a cohesive theme.

Mrs. Who & Mrs. Which

Mrs. Who was autumn themed and Mrs. Which was a winter theme. They were very different designs but each of the witches had a chiffon element such as an over skirt or cape to tie them together.

Mrs. Whatsit

Mrs. Watsit was the most difficult of the three witches, as she had a transformation. I put her in spring colors with a dress that had buttons down the front. Instead of using the buttons however, I added Velcro to close the dress, so it could be easily taken off. Underneath the dress, I hid shiny silver fabric wings that were attached to the wrist. These wings rolled up underneath the brown dress, so that when it was taken off, they unfurled.

Happy Medium

My favorite costume of this show was Happy Medium's. She was in a cool green color and had three different layers: a snake print dress, a knit dress, and a knit shawl. The knit dress was cut down the sides to show the dress underneath.

Red Eyes

In contrast to the Murry's the antagonist Red Eyes is in a dark gray suit and bright red shirt. He represents the darkness that is sweeping the planet Camazotz and throughout the universe. This darkness seeps into Meg's dreams in the form of her bullies and teachers. This is why they are also dressed in reds and gray.s

The People of Camazotz

Every person on Camazotz had to be exactly the same to show that the IT has them under mind control. They are in a warm color just like Red eyes. They each have a bright yellow dress or tie, which was inspired by the 50s nuclear family archetype.

Aunt Beast

I had a difficult time trying to figure out how to costume the beasts. I settled on turning fur vests into fur capes by adding fur to the arms. I also added fur patches to their pants.
