Pain should not be expected with breastfeeding. If you are experiencing pain, it can be a sign that there is an underlying issue.
Heat, deep massage, and increased feedings or pumping can be counterproductive when addressing engorgement, mastitis, or clogged ducts.
Engorgement Info
The flange that comes with your breast pump is likely too big! Using the correct size can help with comfort and efficiency.
It is recommended to measure the tip of your nipple before pumping or nursing. This measurement will give you an idea of where to start.
Despite many manufacturers' instructions, it is not usually helpful to add to your measurement.
If you have questions about which flange will work best for you, schedule an appointment.
In addition to different sizes, there are different shapes, materials, and specialty flanges that we have in the office that you can try to find your best flange fit.
