Google Forms, and any other Google tool, are extremely easy to use and very straightforward. Google Forms can be utilized as a management tool in various ways. For example, you can use them as a way to take attendance, to get feedback from students, or even as informal assessments. I think it would be a great idea to keep a form up at all times so that students, or even parents, can voice any feelings or concerns at any given time.
Take my sample Google Form!
In the first image, I have awarded a group of students with a point for working together. In the next image, you can see a sample of the upcoming events I created for my students. Lastly, you can see where I can easily communicate with my students' parents.
Class Dojo is such a fun way to manage your classroom! The tool has a point based system based on student's behavior. My favorite aspect is how easy it is to communicate with parents. You can send pictures to parents of what their child is doing during the day, and parents love feeling involved in their student's learning. Class Dojo also helps to keep parents informed of how their child is behaving while at school. I also think it is a good tool to use for classroom management because it can be shared with other teachers and faculty. For example, if students go to the library for related arts, the librarian can also use your class’s Class Dojo. The timer, points, and grouping tool are all great additions to your classroom.
Nearpod has quite a few unique tools that help to manage a classroom. For example, Nearpod allows the teacher to see which students are on or off the task they're supposed to be on. In addition, you can synchronize your and your students' devices to ensure everyone is on the same page. Nearpod has the ability to send immediate feedback to students on their quizzes and assignments, as well as creates student reports that you can view to check on progress. My favorite feature on Nearpod is how you can create a seamless lesson plan to leave for substitutes, while also giving you access to check on the class progress while you're away. Instead of worrying about leaving anything out for the sub or stressing about your students' behaviors, you can enjoy a day off and know that Nearpod will work to manage your classroom!
Above, I have a screenshot from the class I made on Showbie. It shows a "Comparing Numbers" worksheet for my first-grade class. With the free version, you are only allowed to upload ten assignments and many of the other features require a paid subscription.
Showbie is an online management tool that is a place for assignments, class discussions, and feedback. Teachers can give feedback so students' assignments by drawing, writing, or even voice recording. This tool is great for class management as all assignments are stored in one place. This is beneficial to students and teachers. Additionally, Showbie has a feature that creates groups in your classroom. By using this tool, you can share modified assignments with students that need them. Not only is this tool for students and teachers, parents can also join to monitor how their child is doing in school. Showbie has a lot to offer when it comes to management, however to get access to most uses, such as automatic grading or parent involvement, you need the paid version.
Silent Light is a noise meter and timer in one. The teacher can choose the designated task, time allowed for a task, and the noise level for the task. Then, the teacher can put the display on the screen, which uses a traffic light to show the noise level, so that students can actively see how loud they are being. This tool is great for management as it also allows for incentives. If students keep the traffic light at a green and stay on task, students earn points. The teacher can decide to give students some kind of reward such as candy or extra points on a quiz. When students see that they lose points when the traffic light changes colors, they will see that as a sign to refocus and quiet down.
Class Charts does a lot more than create seating charts for your classroom. It also keeps track of student behaviors, attendance, and even provides online report cards. You can create your own positive and negative behaviors for your classroom, and add or takeaway points based on a student's behavior. This is a great tool to use for parent-teacher conferences so that you can help parents pinpoint exactly where students are excelling or struggling behavior wise. The points act as an incentive for students to conduct themselves in a positive manner in the classroom. This tool also allows for the teacher to message parents, students, and even other teachers. Overall, Class Charts has many features that work hand in hand with classroom management. However, it does not come free!
