DIS members are equipped to create education materials—including distance learning activities, curriculum aides, info-graphics, games, and guides—to generate interest in paleoanthropological studies among K–12 and university level audiences. If you are interested in obtaining customizable teaching materials for your students or partnering with DIS to host a Scientific Outreach event, please email our team at CASHP_DIS@gwu.edu.

Human Paleobiologists study the biological and environmental history of humans. Through scientific research we search for the roots of human physical traits, culture, and behavior, attempting to answer questions like: What makes humans distinct from other animal species? When and why did we begin to walk on two legs? How did our brains, language, art, music, technology, and religion develop?
We approach these questions from a variety of directions, combining information, technologies and methods from several disciplines (such as, paleontology, biological anthropology, cultural anthropology, molecular biology, and archaeology) and working from biological and cultural evidence (including human skeletal remains, bone fragments, teeth, footprints, stone artifacts, settlement localities, and the anatomy of modern human and animal species).
Our mission is to undertake research that addresses fundamental problems in human evolution that cross disciplinary boundaries, to act as a catalyst for research involving scientists from other centers around the world, and to promote interdisciplinary research through training and education.
