Checking in a hotel or renting a vacation home has become quite a challenge for many during the early months of the global health crisis. But as people are slowly adjusting to the new normal and understanding the part they play in keeping them and others safe, the health protocols are becoming a part of one's lifestyle. Cashier Myricks, a traveler and blogger, shares some tips to keep accommodations virus-free.
Identify high-touch areas
Doorknobs, switches, handles, tables, chairs, pillows, beds, sinks, and toilets are considered high-touch areas that should be disinfected multiple times a day. Cashier Myricks says that this is very important, especially when staying in a room or rental with senior citizens and children. It might also be good to bring one's own supply of hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, and even disinfectant spray.
Sanitize personal belongings
When traveling via public transport or plane, Cashier Myricks recommends sanitizing one's luggage first before entering the house or the room. The luggage might have been handled by many people and the surface could already be contaminated. Spraying or wiping it thoroughly with disinfectant before unpacking will help reduce the spread of viruses. Disinfecting commonly used items such as phones and wallets will also help.
Ensure proper ventilation
Opening the windows even for a few minutes a day can help. Aside from keeping the airborne viruses out, it also prevents allergens from settling in the room. If possible, Cashier Myricks suggests booking hotel rooms with windows that can be opened widely.
Bring own essentials
This can help for those who will be booking vacation homes. Bringing beddings, kitchenware, and bathroom essentials might be more tedious, especially when traveling with the rest of the family but doing this will ensure that the stuff the group will be using are clean.
