Liana had been complaining of fever, chills, fatigue, nausea, coughing, and shortness of breath for about a week. When her shortness of breath suddenly became much worse, she called for an ambulance to take her to the hospital. Doctors in the hospital’s Emergency Room admitted Liana to the intensive care unit so that they could put her on a ventilator to help her get enough oxygen into her body.

The doctors were worried that Liana might be another case of the mysterious vaping-related lung illness that has affected thousands of people across the country. The doctors ordered laboratory tests including blood tests and a lung x-ray.
