This Privacy Policy explains how MobileOcean ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the moCar app ("the App"). We designed moCar to work without an account and to keep your personal content on your device whenever possible.
No account required. You can use every feature of the App without registering or providing your name or email.
Your content stays on your device. Sounds you select or record, photos you add to widgets, your parking spots, vehicles, trip statistics, and configurations are stored locally on your iPhone.
AI features process your input transiently. When you use AI sound generation or AI Repair, the text or photo you submit is processed by our service providers only to produce the result, is not used to train AI models, and is not retained after processing.
We do not sell your personal data.
Limited analytics. We collect anonymous usage and purchase data to keep the App working, fix bugs, and measure our advertising.
Location. Used only for features you actively use: the Home Arrival Sound (detecting arrival at your chosen home location), the GPS speedometer (computing your current speed and trip statistics), and Park Location (saving where you parked, automatically at CarPlay disconnect or manually). All location processing for these features happens on your device. Your location and location history are never transmitted to our servers.
Microphone recordings. If you record a custom sound in Sound Studio, the recording is made only when you actively tap Record, and the audio file is stored on your device only. Recordings are never uploaded.
Photos. Photos you add to widgets or attach to a parking spot are stored and displayed locally.
Vehicles, sounds, and configurations. Your garage entries, sound and widget configurations, trip statistics, and diagnosis history are stored locally on your device.
AI sound generation. The short text you type and your chosen voice are sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which forwards them to our text-to-speech provider (ElevenLabs) to create the audio. The text is processed transiently to generate the sound, is not used for AI training, and is not retained by us after processing. The resulting audio file is stored on your device.
AI Repair. The photo you choose to analyze (and any note you add) is sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which forwards it to our AI provider (Anthropic) to produce the assessment. Photos are processed transiently, are not used for AI training, and are not retained by us after processing. The assessment and a copy of the photo are stored in the history on your device only.
VIN Check. If you look up a VIN, the VIN you enter is sent to the U.S. NHTSA public vehicle database (vPIC) to retrieve vehicle specifications. A VIN identifies a vehicle, not a person; we do not store it on our servers.
Usage data. Anonymous interaction events (for example, which features are used, session length, crashes) to improve stability and the product.
Device data. Device model, iOS version, language, country/region, and app version.
Identifiers. A random app-instance identifier; a random anonymous device identifier used only to enforce fair-use limits on the AI features; and, only if you grant permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, the advertising identifier (IDFA) for ad attribution.
Purchase data. Subscription status and transaction information (processed through Apple; we do not receive or store your payment card details).
Provide and operate App features (sounds, widgets, speedometer, parking, VIN lookup, AI generation and analysis);
Process and validate purchases and subscriptions;
Enforce fair-use limits on AI features;
Fix crashes, diagnose problems, and improve performance;
Understand aggregate feature usage to improve the product;
Measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns (attribution);
Comply with legal obligations.
We do not use your data for third-party advertising networks' own purposes, we do not use your content to train AI models, and we do not sell personal data.

Each provider is contractually limited to processing data for the purposes above.
On first launch (or when relevant), iOS will ask whether you allow the App to track your activity. If you tap "Ask App Not to Track", we do not access the IDFA, and attribution is limited to Apple's privacy-preserving frameworks. The App remains fully functional either way.
Anonymous analytics and crash data are retained for up to 24 months, then deleted or aggregated.
AI inputs (generation text, repair photos) are processed transiently and are not retained on our servers after the result is returned. Anonymous rate-limit counters are kept only for the current day.
Purchase records are retained as long as needed to provide your subscription and meet legal (tax/accounting) obligations.
Content on your device (sounds, recordings, photos, vehicles, parking spots, diagnosis history, configurations) is deleted when you delete the App.
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, object to or restrict processing, and withdraw consent.
European Union / EEA / UK (GDPR): You have the rights listed above and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Our legal bases are performance of a contract (providing the App, subscriptions, and the AI features you request), legitimate interests (analytics, security, fair-use enforcement), and consent (tracking/IDFA, microphone, camera, photos, location).
California (CCPA/CPRA): You have the right to know, delete, and correct personal information, and to opt out of "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not sell personal information. You can opt out of tracking at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
To exercise any right, contact us at the email below. We respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
We use industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit (TLS) for all data sent to our service providers. API credentials for AI providers are held only on our servers, never in the App. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information using appropriate technical and organizational measures.
The App is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Our service providers may process data in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
AI Repair provides automated, informational assessments only. It is not professional automotive advice, and you should not rely on it for safety-critical decisions — always consult a qualified mechanic.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date reflects the latest version. Material changes will be communicated within the App or on this page.
