The Carter Committee is comprised of five members appointed by the Town Manager for three year service terms. Throughout the year we are on the lookout for talented musicians and entertaining programs to present to residents and friends of the Town of Wilmington. Our funding comes from an endowment presented to the Town in 1907 through the will of the late Sarah D. J. Carter. She requested that these events remain free of charge and open to the public. We gratefully will accept donations to offset our expenses, and arrangements can be made to include any sponsors in our printed evening program.
Since the turn of the 21st century, interest generated from Mrs. Carter's bequest has not been sufficient to fund the high quality programs expected of the Carter Lecture Fund. Therefore, in 2014 the Committee applied for a grant from the Wilmington Cultural Council, funded through the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Since then, the Cultural Council has been very supportive of the Committee's efforts to continue providing outstanding entertainment to our Town. Through their generous grants, the work of the Sarah D.J. Carter Lecture Fund continues!
The Committee is also grateful to Wilmington's Kirkwood Printing for their donations of our program brochures.
