HOW DID THE ALGONQUIN SPINNERS AND WEAVERS GUILD GET STARTED?

The exact dates are a bit fuzzy - Alpha Huffman and Kathleen Hausman taught spinning classes a couple of times.  Lynne Carnes heard about it and thought a group might reinforce the interest would be a good idea.  the first demos were not the involved ones we do now.  Letters were sent to the spinning class participants sometime in 1990 to see if there was an interest.  The first meeting at the school house was about January 1991.  The rest is History!

The Algonquin Mill Spinners and Weavers m et in the historic school house at the Algonquin Mill, Petersburg, Ohio on the third Saturday of the month.  We meet from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. or whenever you can join us.  We spin, weave, knit, crochet share patterns and materials and chat.  Members are welcome to sell wool, yearns and any fiber related product they produce.  Mini-workshops and demonstrations are scheduled frequently.  A pot luck lunch is enjoyed at noon.  The meetings are open to the public.

The Algonquin Mill Festival is held the second weekend of October.  The members participate in demonstrating a variety of fiber arts in the Spinners cabin and the two story log house.
