The founders

Did you know that the Marcel Morin Community Centre first opened its doors as a Metro grocery store, followed by various restaurant businesses until it was bought by the City of Pierrefonds who then rented it to a school?

Thanks to the vision and support of the elected Mayor Marcel Morin with his councillors Allyson Murdock and George Boutilier, as well as his Director of Sports, Recreation and Social Development Gerry Robertson, the "Carrefour des aînes" became a reality. They are the ones who saw the need to find a gathering place for the many seniors living in Pierrefonds.

Sunday, October 22, 1995, the center welcomed 300 people who signed up for membership in the new recreational center, a place where seniors could meet, make new friends and participate in activities to improve their quality of life. The City appointed the first Board of Directors to administer and manage this non-profit and self-finance organization. This committee was in place until pending its first annual general meeting held in June 1996

The first directors were Laurent Lagacé President, Annette Hupé 1st Vice-President, Walter March 2nd Vice-President who designed our logo, Nancy Plourde Treasurer, Mona Bernard Secretary, and Denise Albert Director of Public Relations.

T’ai Chi, line dancing, and bridge were among the first activities offered, including an exercise program, for which the local CLSC provided instructors. Over the years more activities were added and today le Carrefour des aînes de Pierrefonds has more than 1000 members (50 yrs +) who participate in over 30 activities, special events and well-organized outings.

Thanks to the dreams, dedication and unrelenting hard work of the founders and volunteers, past and present, our seniors have an energizing and safe place to enjoy a fulfilling lifestyle.
