When I first meet with students, we sometimes find there are a few gaps in their mathematical foundation that can easily be filled and then built upon to achieve excellence in their mathematical studies. Common areas are memorized facts, which open conceptual doors for seeing relationships that exist in equations; or understanding how to easily deal with fractions. We'll find any gap or weak areas, and work them so that they become strengths. Additionally, we often look at how to study, review, and master new material.
We will streamline the learning and conceptual process, so the upper level classes make sense and become "your own." We use our time together for homework help, to teach new units, to prepare to take standardized tests, or to look ahead to new material. We often look at how to study and master new material. We can discuss goals and upcoming course or college major choices. At this level, zoom often works as well as in-person sessions.

She worked with my daughter from middle school and into college and is the reason for her success in math. I can personally attest to Carol's extensive patience and perseverance :) “ - B. Dickson
“Carol has been tutoring my 15 year old daughter in Algebra for about two months now. I have seen both her grades and her confidence increase. She is about to take on my senior for some extra help in AP Calculus. She has a very enthusiastic personality and takes great pride in helping students reach their goal. Highly recommended!!” - S. Covart

“Math Tutor shout out. I would like to give a big shout for an excellent math tutor in our neighborhood. Carol Wallis is a true gem! She has been tutoring my high school junior in Pre Calculus Honors. She has been a tremendous help and provides so much encouragement along the way. She tutors all levels of math and teaches music too. Carol is on Next Door!!” - K. Droubie
“If anyone is looking for a math tutor, I HIGHLY recommend Carol Wallis! My 7 year old son LOVED working with her. She has such a wonderful temperament and patience for days!” _ N. Figueroa
“I found Miss Carol via [Nextdoor] and she turned out to be the best decision we have ever made. We decided on math tutoring and piano lessons for my 10 year old. He was having trouble with common core and was starting to hate math. So initially that is what we were searching for. Then she informed me she also taught music and that was perfection! She’s so joyous and welcoming, patient and kind. She’s delightful to be around and consistent with her teachings. My son went from a C to an A all year and even into this year and loved math again. And he loves playing the piano now. Her prices are accurate and she is well worth it. If you need a tutor or music teacher, she will not disappoint!” - C. Jackson
“My son is a student at Bishop Kenny and has struggled throughout the year in his Algebra 1 class . He was on the verge of failing and going to summer school. I found Mrs. Wallis months ago on Nextdoor and thanks to her for tutoring my son every week, sometimes twice a week, he has passed!! Not only did he pass for the year, he made a 76 on his final exam which basically was the first test he made over a D. Due to her teaching and structure of learning, my son was able to soak it all in so to speak!! I highly recommend her and we will be using her as our tutor for his Geometry next school year. She has a lovely house and offers a great learning environment for her students. Not to mention she is also a music teacher and excels in both piano and all Math related subjects. She has a ton of fans who recommend her because this is where I found her on Nextdoor!! I’m sure she will see this and be able to post her information for everyone and her summer prep tutoring to get ahead for the next school year. If you feel like your child is struggling don't hesitate to get extra help!! Some kids need one on one teaching as does my son and he was successful!!” - J. Shelton
“Carol Wallis is wonderful!!!” (re: Algebra 1) - L. Dowling
“We are thrilled to recommend Carol Wallis as a math and physics tutor for children looking to accelerate their learning and improve their standardized test performance.
Our thirteen-year-old son needed to take the ISEE as part of his application process with Episcopal and Bolles. His … quantitative reasoning and mathematics achievement scores were average at the 41st and 49th percentiles. He worked with Carol on practice test questions and the associated concepts for 3 months and raised his performance on the quantitative reasoning and mathematics achievement sections to the 94th and 99th percentiles. This helped him secure acceptance offers from both schools.
Since he was advanced in math, he enrolled in a 9th grade conceptual physics class as a 7th grader and achieved an A average with occasional help from Carol where needed.
While Carol offers in-person tutoring, we opted for the convenience of virtual sessions She uses a combination of Zoom and a virtually shared whiteboard application to enable the hands-on learning that is so critical for math and science.
While your primary goal for leveraging a tutor is likely learning acceleration and test performance, a tutor’s ability to effectively communicate with children and teens in a positive, motivating manner is also extremely important. Carol has years of experience in this area, deeply cares for the kids and their growth, and our children enjoy their interactions with her.
If you are considering having your child work with Carol to accelerate their learning and have questions, please feel free to reach out to us as a reference.” - M Meiners
