If you or your child is looking for support in your math studies, either to bring up a grade or excel with one-on-one instruction, you've come to the right place. I offer in-person and online tutoring, tailored to your particular goals.

Priority is given to students who choose a regular weekly schedule, but no contract is required! Tuition payment is required upon booking, with a no-refund/no-credit policy on cancelations within 48 hours of scheduled appointments.  Many families choose to pay at the start of the month, to reserve their time and simplify payment.

Remedial and Support Help

When I first meet with students, we sometimes find there are a few gaps in their mathematical foundation that can easily be filled and then built upon to achieve excellence in their mathematical studies.  Common areas are memorized facts, which open conceptual doors for seeing relationships that exist in equations; or understanding how to easily deal with fractions. We'll find any gap or weak areas, and work them so that they become strengths. Additionally, we often look at how to study, review, and master new material.  

Excelling  and Building Toward College

We will streamline the learning and conceptual process, so the upper level classes make sense and become "your own." We use our time together for homework help, to teach new units, to prepare to take standardized tests, or to look ahead to new material. We often look at how to study and master new material.  We can discuss goals and upcoming course or college major choices. At this level, zoom often works as well as in-person sessions.

Our thirteen-year-old son needed to take the ISEE as part of his application process with Episcopal and Bolles.  His … quantitative reasoning and mathematics achievement scores were average at the 41st and 49th percentiles.  He worked with Carol on practice test questions and the associated concepts for 3 months and raised his performance on the quantitative reasoning and mathematics achievement sections to the 94th and 99th percentiles.  This helped him secure acceptance offers from both schools.

Since he was advanced in math, he enrolled in a 9th grade conceptual physics class as a 7th grader and achieved an A average with occasional help from Carol where needed.

While Carol offers in-person tutoring, we opted for the convenience of virtual sessions  She uses a combination of Zoom and a virtually shared whiteboard application to enable the hands-on learning that is so critical for math and science.  

While your primary goal for leveraging a tutor is likely learning acceleration and test performance, a tutor’s ability to effectively communicate with children and teens in a positive, motivating manner is also extremely important.  Carol has years of experience in this area, deeply cares for the kids and their growth, and our children enjoy their interactions with her.
