Lessons are normally given at my home studio in Provo, Utah, but I do offer online lessons as well.
Monthly prices are the same from month to month. The monthly tuition price assumes 4 lessons in a month, and 4 multiplied by 12 (for 12 months in a year) equals 48. Since there are actually 52 weeks in a year, this means there are 4 weeks unpaid for, and I will not be teaching during those weeks. As of now, these will be the week of Thanksgiving, two weeks at Christmas, and a week in the summer yet to be determined. Even though fewer lessons will be given during these months, the monthly lesson price will stay the same.
Tuition reserves a weekly time slot and membership in my studio.
If the teacher cancels a lesson for any reason, one of the following will occur:
it will count as one of the teacher’s 4 no-lesson weeks
the teacher will reschedule the lesson
the student will be credited the next month for the missed lesson
If the client cancels a lesson with at least 24 hours notice the teacher will reschedule it upon request if it can be scheduled during normal teaching hours, or refund the amount. Please notify me at the time of cancelation whether you would like to reschedule or be reimbursed.
Please do not come to lessons if sick. In the case of mild illness, arrangements can be made for a lesson through Google Meet, Zoom, Skype, or another video chat service.
Students are to practice at least five days a week. Students twelve-years-old and older are to practice for a minimum of 30 minutes a day.
PROBATION: Students consistently not meeting the practice requirements will be put on probation and I will work with their parents to find a practice schedule that works for them. This may sound harsh, but's it's for the benefit of the student and their enjoyment of lessons. Continued failure to make improvements can result in
Each student should bring a spiral-bound notebook to each lesson. I will write the week’s assignments in this notebook.
Each student should also have access to a working metronome. There are many good options on Amazon as well as several free metronome apps that can be used on the student or parent’s phone or tablet.
The parent is responsible for buying new books and music for the student. When a new book or piece of music is needed, I will notify the parent of what is needed. Most music can be found for reasonable prices on Amazon.
At times, I may lend the student music from my own library for certain occasions such as Christmas time or recitals.
Two recitals will be held each year, one in the spring, usually in May, and the other in the fall, usually in November or early December. Students are expected to perform a polished piece in each recital. Adult students may perform if desired but are not required to do so.
Parental involvement and support are major keys to progress! I ask for a parent to be present at lessons for children under the age of about 12. However, if this is not possible for you we can still work something out.
Each student will have an Assignment Book which will not only tell them what to practice each week, but also includes goals, progress, and a record of practice time. I like the parents to be the note-taker. This means listening during the lesson and writing down the assigned songs for that week's practice. Don't worry, it's not a lot! Please listen to the feedback I give your child. This is a real time-saver, allowing me to have more time focused with your child.
For children older than 12 this is optional, but encouraged. If you cannot attend lessons with them, please make sure you are aware of what is in their Assignment Book and how consistently they are practicing at home.
