Important Update:

Due to Covid-19, I am taking special precautions to keep all my students and their families safe. We have restarted in-person lessons again! I am following all guidelines for our county in regards to social distancing and hygiene. Please note the following policies.

My students and I wear masks during lessons (a scarf is fine if a mask is not available).
All students must wash hands immediately upon arrival (I will also be washing hands frequently).
My piano keys are sanitized between every lesson.
I will not be sitting next to them on the piano, but will be close enough to help them make corrections and demonstrate technique. I bought a special new keyboard so that I can still play duets and demonstrate for them while maintaining social distancing.
If a student is sick at all please let me know and we will cancel. As always, there will be no penalty for cancelling due to illness, no matter how last-minute it is. I will likewise be in contact with you if I am ill.

I have confidence that with these guidelines we will all be safe. I will continue to follow the state-recommended health procedures and update these policies as the state health department recommends. If any of these policies concern you in any way (too strict, not strict enough) please contact me and we can talk them over and possibly make some individual adjustments if you feel you or your child need more precautions.

Why learn music?

Did you know that learning a musical instrument can actually contribute to the development of skills outside of music?

There are various studies that tie the study of music to benefits in other areas such as school, work, and mental health, like this article from the New York Times points out.

One study published in the Sage Journal found that children with at least 3 years of music study had significantly better vocabulary and verbal sequencing scores than their peers who had no musical training.

Other research has shown that piano lessons for older adults have a significant impact on increased levels of Human Growth Hormone, which slows the adverse effects of aging. Yet more research shows that bringing music into your life is also proven to reduce anxiety, heart and respiratory rates, cardiac complications, and to lower blood pressure and increase immune response.

When is the right time to learn?

For children, I normally recommend any age after about 5-6 years old. However, every child is a little bit different and some are ready at a younger age. If you're not sure, bring them in for a free test lesson to see how they do!

What about pre-teens, teens, and adults? Have you always wanted to learn and worry you missed your chance?

It's never too late to start or pick it back up! I use multiple sets of books, each appropriate for the age of the student. I also tailor my lessons and material to the needs and goals of each student. Play what you have always wanted to play, and have fun too!
