Going up, so many souls giving it their all in a cold and windy night. A full starry night, pitch dark, with bright white stars and the mesmerizing shine like stars on earth. So many headlamps, filling the road, illuminating the route.

A whimsical bonfire, chatting between the group, reflecting on our experiences so far. Admiring the beauty of the place. A starry night, under the turquoise lake nestled between the hills.

Trekking Rinjani was one of the toughest experiences I have ever lived. It is a challenging mountain that humbles your spirit. The local people tell you, "It doesn't matter much your level of fitness or expertise; to summit this mountain and complete the trek, you need mental and inner strength." They were right, for this summit and for every battle in life.
Mountaineering is always a mental challenge, pushing you over and over, defying your strength and adaptability. The state in which you start this challenge will greatly define how you can overcome it, just like the physical and metaphorical backpack you carry.
Every step during the next three days was a constant challenge. Among mental battles, physical exhaustion, enormous mileage, tears, sweat, pain, falls, rays of sunlight, incredible landscapes, breathtaking views, and changing environments, I reached the end with a new backpack of hard-earned lessons. I learned to listen better to my body, to self-care, to stop, to live more slowly, to care for my mind and heart, and to feel what needs to be felt. Once again, a wise mountain filled me with beautiful and strong life lessons.
Because on the mountain, once you start, there's no turning back. You keep going, one way or another, but you always keep going. The only way out is to keep moving. Sometimes you need to stop, reflect, feel, cry, scream, fall down, but you always get up and continue in some direction. Return the same way? Start over? A new route? A wrong path? Continue to the end? Change the plan? Whatever you decide, on the mountain and in life, you continue one way or another. So prepare your life backpack carefully, fill it with care for your whole self, for others, for the Earth. Fill it and unfill it as you need along the way.

Two friends on one side, two friends on the other. Marisa and I met during a slow boat crossing from Thailand's border to Laos. We were sitting next to each other, different countries, same language, same destination. We shared bits of our lives, talking for hours. This was the moment our friendship started, transforming us from strangers to friends. Our plans were similar, and we enjoyed each other's company, so we continued traveling together until our paths diverged.
By the time this photo was taken, we had been traveling together for almost a month. We would talk for hours, share long laughing sessions, and discuss life in depth. We learned to travel together, each maintaining their own space and freedom, yet choosing to stay on the same path. Here, we were relaxing and talking, enjoying one of those rare slow travel days. We savored the local life at the beach, the music, the picnic spots, the sunny day. In front of us, two friends sat down, chatting as we did. Even if I couldn't understand what they were saying, we were alike. Two friends side by side, sharing a bit of life, on the side of a beach, talking about life.
Camino de Costa Rica, 2026
Solo trek
I crossed a country walking.
Alone, from one ocean to the other.
The days blurred into heat, mud, color, and rhythm.
The body learned the land in a way the mind never could.
This collage is not a map of the journey, but a trace of it—
what remained after everything settled.
