Tryouts will be at Carmel Middle School with clinics on May 12th and 14th, and formal tryouts on Friday, May 15, 2026.
I can't make it to one or both of the clinics. Can I still learn the material and try out?
Yes! We will have videos of all the material being taught, available after the first clinic. ALL registrants will recieve the videos for additional practice, and this also gives you the opportunity to learn any material you missed. If you are not able to attend the clinics, you will be responsible for learning the material on your own, without feedback from our coaching staff or high school cheerleaders, so it is still HIGHLY recommended and beneficial. If you can't make it to one or both clinics, please let us know by emailing carmelpupscheerleading@gmail.com.
I am unavailable for my grade's formal tryout date/time. Do I have any other options to try out?
Yes! We can be flexible with the time and have you try out with another grade level. We also accept virtual/video try outs. If you need an alternate try out option, please email carmelpupscheerleading@gmail.com before tryouts. Even if you are doing a virtual tryout, you will need to register with CDC by May 9th.
How many candidates will make the program for each grade?
This can vary from year-to-year and grade-to-grade.
Our 6th Graders have the option to try out for our Fall/Football cheer team and/or our Winter/Basketball cheer team. Our Football cheer team can ONLY be one team, as there is only one Pups Football team to cheer for. We can take up to 16 athletes for this team.
For all Winter/Basketball teams (3rd-6th), we can field up to 5 teams per grade, as there are 5 Pups basketball teams per grade. We will not have a team of less than 7 (as this greatly limits stunting and formations), and we cannot have a team of more than 12 (due to sideline space in gyms). These factors, along with available volunteer coaches - we MUST have at least one approved adult coach per team, will be taken into consideration. The goal of our Pups Cheer program is to offer the opportunity to cheer for as many candidates as possible, within our number and volunteer limits. Teams placements will be done by tryout score with the top 7-12 being on Gold, then Blue, White, Gray, and Black, for as many teams as we can field. Teams within a grade will be kept as even as possible with the number of athletes on each team.
I participate in All-Star cheerleading or another sport. Can I do Pups, as well?
Yes! We encourage our athletes to participate in Pups regardless of All-Star or other sports. Our games are all on Sunday afternoons (with some evenings), and we have practice once a week for 1.5 hours. The day/time of each team's weekly practice will not be known until early September, with practices beginning in mid-October (the week after Fall Break). Each team's coach will be asked to offer available days/times based on their schedules to the team, then the day/time that is most agreeable for their team will be chosen. We will try to be as flexible as possible, and we just ask that you prioritize that hour and half each week, and game times, as much as possible.
I am in 5th or 6th grade, and I want to do Carmel Cheer Club. Can I also do Pups?
ABSOLUTELY!! Our commissioner, Molly Reuille, is also the 5th/6th Carmel Cheer Club Head Coach, so CCC is HIGHLY encouraged alongside Pups. There may be minimal conflicts between Pups and CCC schedules, but we will be working together to manage this.
