TEAM PRACTICES WILL BE 2 TIMES PER WEEK:

Playing on a basketball team offers a unique opportunity for personal growth, leadership skills, and athletic achievement. The attitude, dedication and enthusiasm of the athletes are just as important as the skills involved in basketball. Players should push themselves to excel, making personal exemplary conduct a top priority. Understand that rules and regulations are essential to maintain team morale and effective learning. Consistent enforcement of rules promotes safety of each athlete and fairness to the entire team. Participation is voluntary, not mandatory. It is also a privilege and not a right, so it may be revoked at any time when rules are violated.
Lady Pups Expectations: As the player on a Lady Pups Basketball Team, I will:
● Guard my attitude, speech and actions at practices, games and all other team events to reflect the rules and principles as stated by Carmel Lady Pups program- I will refrain from complaining, criticizing, critiquing coaches, teammates, opposing team’s coaches, players, or parents, the referees or other affiliated parties.
● Speak positively to my teammates and coaches. I will also speak positively of my teammates and coaches.
● Follow common courtesy rules at all times. (This means using good listening, verbalization, and eye-contact skills.)
● Be on time for all practices and games, realizing the team as a whole is dependent on each individual player to fulfill this commitment to the team. This includes doing your best to be in attendance for all practices and games as this is a "try-out" based team.
● Notify my coaches when I am going to be late or absent for a practice or game.
● Watch and actively support the other Lady Pups teams if at all possible. All Lady Pups basketball players & teams are under the Lady Pups program. (*Regardless of team color or grade level)
● Use the facilities and equipment provided respectfully (both at practice and in tournaments).
● Treat my coaches, teammates, fans, opposing teams, and game officials with respect at all times.
● Maintain a positive attitude at all times, regardless of circumstances. This includes exhibiting negative attitudes and outbursts. These are only a detriment to the team as a whole and will have consequences.
● Address any problem or concern with a coach or teammate by going directly to that person and talking to them in a kind manner, clearly addressing the problem. If that does not resolve the issue, then I will take a coach with me to talk to that player or other coach. Problems will be resolved immediately. If I have a problem with a player or coach, I understand gossiping about it to other players on the team will result in disciplinary action. This will only tear the team down and possibly damage the reputation of the individual(s) involved.

Playing time is E.A.R.N'ed and not given therefore, will be determined by Pups coaches.
E.A.R.N. Model - Pups players EARN positions and time on the court:
E > Effort – We all cannot be great players, but we can all want to be great players and work for it
A > Accountability – Every player has a job to do, every drill, and every play. Take accountability.
R > Right – Do what is right all the time, not just when you think someone is watching.
N > Nourish – Nourish the concept of team & family. It’s not all about you, we expect everyone to play as a team. Strength grows out of struggle and your successes are based on how well you overcome your struggles in life. Life isn’t what happens to you, it’s how you respond!
Parent Code of Conduct
As the parent of a Lady Pups player, I will:
● Guard my speech at games and all other team events.
● Ensure my daughter arrives on time for practices and games.
● Pay our team fees on time &/or contact CDC immediately if there are concerns.
● Ensure my daughter arrives on time for practices and games.
● Refrain from coaching your child (or any player) or talking to your child during a game or practice without the consent or permission of your teams coach.
● Understand players will be played at the discretion of the coaches. Playing time is not guaranteed however coaches will make every effort to play every player in every game.
● Refrain from complaining, criticizing or critiquing coaches, teammates, opposing team’s coaches, players, or parents, the referees or other affiliated parties openly. We ask for public praise; private criticism (if necessary) when there are concerns.
● Exhibit excellent sportsmanship characteristics when at any CDC or Carmel Lady Pups functions. I will set a positive example for my daughter and remember that as a parent, I have come to watch my daughter and her team’s athletic accomplishments.
● Abide by the 24-hour rule after practices/games/tournaments to raise any concerns with coaches or organization leaders. This allows for a cooling off period so that conversations can be objective, thoughtful, and productive.
Please watch:
Based on the recommendations of the Carmel Dads Club Travel Committee in coordination with the Carmel High School Athletic Program Leadership and Coaches, the Carmel Pups Girls Basketball Travel Team Program has adopted the following policy for the Pups season:
Carmel Pups Travel Basketball Program activities and events will be the TOP SPORTS PRIORITY for each and every player on a Carmel Pups Team for the entire duration of the season.
This policy means:
All Pups players are expected to attend all Pups events (practices and games) unless there is a family or school event or illness that prevents them from attending the Pups event.
Anytime there is a conflict between a Pups event (practices or games) and another team sporting event of any type, the Pups event will be the Pups player's top priority, and the Pups player will attend and participate in the Pups event.
If a Pups player misses a Pups event for any outside team sporting event, that player should expect reduced playing time in games and practices.
If a Pups player attends a Pups event after playing for or practicing with another sports team earlier in the day of a Pups event and appears to the Coach to be tired or playing at less than full capacity, the Coach at his own discretion may reduce or eliminate playing time for that player during a game or practice.
For the duration of the Pups season, all of the Pups players are expected to put the best interests of their Pups Team above the interests of any other sports team during the season.
Please refer also to IYBL and league rules for player conduct. Players may NOT actively play on another competitior/team while in Pups Basketball season (Oct.-Mar)
**Any player not placed on a team will have the option to transfer to the rec program or get a refund. Any girl who recieves an on team spot - it but declines does not get the tryout fee refunded.
Parental dedication and support is every bit as important to the success of your daughter as the dedication expected of her as an athlete. The Carmel Dads Club depends on your support and volunteerism - thank you in advance for being an active and engaged member of our Pups team.
Basketball is a team sport the performance of the team is dependent upon every team member's contribution, and if the whole team is dedicated, hard-working, and striving for the same goal of excellence, the result is far greater than the results achievable by any one individual.
Support critical to your daughter’s success includes transporting her to practices and games on time (and a little bit early is even better), providing proper nutrition in snacks and meals beforehand, and being willing to assist in any way needed. Most importantly as a parent, encourage your daughter to exhibit attitudes, values, and characteristics which portray a positive image and reflection on the team, Carmel Dads Club and the Carmel Lady Greyhounds basketball program(s). This should be encouraged at all practices and games with both kids and parents.
Please remember, it takes many hands to put together a quality program specifically in a volunteer organization. Our job, as parents, is to support the coaches by allowing them to focus on instructing our children rather than dealing with the administrative aspects of the program. We appreciate every family that is available to assist during the season with some of these needs. Volunteer parents are needed to: ● Keep Score Book ● Work the Clock ● Coach*(*application/interview required)
