Carmelite Sisters D.C.J. is a contemplative/apostolic Congregation of pontifical rite aggregated to the first Order of Discalced Carmelites. As contemplatives we dedicate ourselves to prayer of reparation to the Heart of Jesus and intercession for the needs of the world. Through our apostolic endeavours we bring Gods love to others through our care for children, the elderly and the poor and needy.
Animated by the spirit of Carmel and a burning love for the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Blessed Mother Maria Teresa of Saint Joseph founded the Carmel of the Divine Heart of Jesus in 1891. Her aim was to combine the contemplative spirit of Carmel with a loving and active service to the needy.
The heart of Carmelite spirituality is contemplative prayer - that silent loving person-to-person relationship with Jesus Christ. This life of intimacy with God in contemplation overflows into prayer of intercession on behalf of all humankind.
Blessed Maria Teresa of Saint Joseph added her own special charism, prayer as reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus for all sins committed.
Blessed Mother Maria Teresas vision of the apostolic endeavour of the Sisters was that the Sisters would,Descend like angels from the heights of Mount Carmel to grief laden humanity.
