Sky was a gorgeous chestnut mare with so many amazing qualities that we’d need another website to list them all. She was the matriarch of the herd. Nicki and Sky had a very special relationship. “Sky knew that I thought she was the smartest, most perfect horse I’ve ever met,” Nicki shared.
Sky quickly made lots of friends here, all of whom benefited from her teachings and calm leadership. Sky brought peace and joy to every day.
Sky’s favourite things were: running around the track with everyone, jumping and bucking when spring rolled around, and grooming Parker and Binks.
Annabelle and Sky were the earth mothers of Carlisle Creek Farm. Annabelle was a very attractive miniature donkey who came to us in her mid-30’s. Annabelle and her son, Patrick, were the first donkeys here. We had so much to learn about donkeys, but luckily we had Annabelle to teach us! She loved being brushed regularly, fed often, and admired constantly.
Annabelle’s favourite things were: wandering around the farm with Patty, giving excellent hugs, getting groomed and massaged, and—of course—sitting on her mom; it was important to keep her grounded.
Frida was named after an artist who had really bushy eyebrows just like Frida’s. When she arrived, Frida was really weak and covered in bugs. With medication and lots of attention and love, she started to feel better. Frida loved eating all the trees that mom planted and especially loved chewing on willow bark.
Frida’s favourite things were: lots of food…all the time….brushes…all the time..and affection..a lot. She also loved spending quality time with her daughter, Sophie.
Fudge was popular from the day he arrived here. He was a bit skeptical at first, trying to figure out what was with all of the minis running after him and asking him a million questions! Fudge told stories about his past, “I remember going around and around in circles with little people wiggling around on top of me. I was happy to get out of that situation.” He found peace at Carlisle Creek Farm, was free to walk through the trees and nibble everything in his path without having to do something for humans.
Fudge’s favourite things were: wandering around alone (sometimes he liked the company of Tucker and Maverick), exploring all of the different plants and small creatures. To Fudge, food was THE BEST and all he had to do was give mom that look and she would feed him more. He didn't have many teeth so it was always mushy, just the way he liked it.
Freddie was a tall thoroughbred, the same colour as Chester, a blood bay. He had been locked in a stall for months and almost died until we stepped in and saved him. It was clear that Freddie felt like he had friends for the first time in his life and his personality began to shine! Freddie was smitten with Sky; she was the most incredible creature he had ever met and when she died, he really missed her.
Freddie’s favourite things were; hanging out with Tilda, getting groomed by his mom and galloping around the track with his buddies. He enjoyed his food and didn’t even mind being chased by Cole!
