⇨ Where and when is the conference held?

Now in its 8th year, the Annual Carleton University Graduate Political Science Conference is held every winter semester in the Department of Political Science at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. This year, the Conference will take place on Friday, February 27, 2025 and the room number will be announced to all registrants.

⇨ Who can submit to present? 

The conference is a graduate student-run conference spotlighting MA and PhD student work, with a keynote presentation from a respected political scientist. We welcome submissions from graduate students in all disciplines on political science-related topics spanning the spectrum of faculties, methodologies, formats, and dialogues.

⇨ What is this year’s theme? 

This year’s theme is States, Societies, and Structures. 

⇨ How long should proposals be?

Proposals should be up to 250 words.

⇨ When are submissions due? 

Submissions for the Annual Carleton University Graduate Political Science Conference is open until Friday, January 9, 2026. A second round of submissions is open until January 23, 2026.

⇨ Who is this year's keynote speaker?

This year's keynote speaker is Dr. Chantal Lavallée, Associate Professor at the Royal Military College Saint-Jean. She work specializes in the European Union, security and defense.

⇨ I don’t think I will submit this year, but I would love to attend – how do I register? 

Our conference is open to attendees! There is no need to register, you are welcome to attend any panels that interest you. 

⇨ What is the presentation format?

Each presenter is allocated 30 minutes. Up to 15 minutes can be dedicated to an oral presentation (slides are encouraged but not mandatory). Following the 15-minute presentation, each presenter will receive 5 minutes of oral feedback from their discussant, followed by a 10-minute Q&A.
