General Rules
Judges decisions are final.
All Beavers and Scouters participating must be in uniform.
Races are designed for youth participation, and as such, family and friends should limit their participation and influence.
The Beaver Scout must be at the race to race the Beaver Buggy (exceptions may be made at the discretion of the officials depending on reason)
One Beaver Buggy per Beaver & one Beaver Scout (driver) per Beaver Buggy
Vehicle Specifications
Each Beaver Buggy is to be original built within current Scouting year.
The Buggy must be constructed from the official Scouts Canada Beaver Buggy kit.
Beaver Buggies are built to have fun. Beavers (with the help of their parents) are encouraged to let their imaginations run wild; buggies can be made into cars, planes, trucks, bikes, or anything that a Beaver can imagine (within the below specifications to ensure they fit on the track).
All buggies will be weighed on race day and material may be removed from buggies that are overweight at the Official’s discretion.
Weight shall not exceed 142 grams (as per the official’s scale at the race venue)
The Beaver Buggy shall clear the track by no less than 9.5 mm with a minimum track (between the wheels) of 45mm
Wheel bearings, washers & bushings are prohibited, and may not be modified.
Only Beaver Buggy wheels can be used. All wheels MUST meet the track, and wheels & axles may NOT be modified.
The Beaver Buggy shall not ride on any type of springs
The Beaver Buggy must be freewheeling with no starting devices
No loose materials of any kind are permitted on the vehicle
ONLY the contents of the Beaver Buggy Kit may be used, as well as the permitted decals
All painted surfaces must be dry! The bottom of the Buggy may be painted but MUST NOT BE COVERED with any decals.
Lubrication - Powdered graphite or teflon may be applied to the Buggy prior to registration/weigh-in outside of the building -- all excess lubricant must be wiped off before racing. Lubrication is not permitted between races. The use of liquid lubricants (oil, 3-in-one, WD-40, Jig-A-Loo, etc.) is not permitted on-site -- if liquid lubrication was applied to the Kub Kar prior to arriving, all visible lubrication must be wiped off prior to registration.
Beaver Buggy numbers MUST be displayed on the top of the Beaver Buggy, and clearly visible. Use of paint or decal (any) is permitted. Decals must lay flat. (Numbers will be supplied at the start of the race by the Organizing Committee)
Inspection – ALL Beaver Buggies must pass inspection as per the race officials. The decision of the officials is final. The officials have the right to disqualify Beaver Buggy that fail to pass inspection, or those of individuals acting in an un-Scoutly manner. (eg: arguing with the Officials)
It is strongly recommended that each Colony ensure the Buggies are within spec before Rally.
Races
All Beaver Buggies must start by gravity from a standstill, at a starting line on the track or special ramp, without any help. No pushing will be allowed.
If a Beaver Buggy goes off the track or causes another Buggy to go off the track on the first run, there is no contest. The race is to be re-run. If the same Beaver Buggy leaves the track or causes another Beaver Buggy to go off the track on the second run, the vehicle will place last.
The Beaver Buggy whose nose is first over the finish line is the winner.
In the event of a tie (i.e. the track judge cannot decide the winner), theBeaver Buggies involved in the tie will rerun the race after switching lanes.
Each Beaver Buggy will run a minimum of 10 races. The track judge will sign the Rally Card in the position in which the Beaver Buggy finished. The Beaver will then proceed to the track number corresponding to that position. Beavers are to form a line behind the Starter at each track. Lane will be assigned in sequence based on the Beaver's position in the line (first in line ˃ lane one, second in line ˃ lane two, third in line ˃ lane three).
When a Beaver has completed his/her races, Beavers are to take their Beaver Buggy to the Design Table for judging and submit their Rally Card to the Registration Desk for tabulation.
Finalists will be determined by the number of times each Beaver finished, first, second or third from the preliminary races. In the event of more than the required number of Beavers being eligible for the Finals, an elimination race-off may be required to break a tie.
