Use of Implementation Cycle
The purpose of our Counseling Advisory Council is to ensure the comprehensive counseling program is meeting the needs of the students at Carleston. During the meetings our council helps determine the effectiveness of the different program aspects, interventions given, and then provide feedback and recommendations for the next school year. We review procedures, attendance and behavior data, as well as feedback from staff and parents. We discuss our Campus Improvement Plan, counseling SMART goals, district initiatives, and academic performance. The data comes from our Positive Behavior Intervention Support Screener, office referral data, skyward attendance data and needs assessments. Based on the data reviewed the council worked together to provide feedback and recommendations.
Example Use of the Implementation Cycle
Organizing: In order to design a program that meets the needs of the students at Carleston, we started with a comprehensive needs assessment. During the process we found that each classroom teacher needed help with building their class community and did not have the resources to implement a morning meeting.
Planning: The council gave feedback on how to implement time with intentional activities each day for the teachers to use to help build stronger class community and relationships.
Designing: Our district representative expressed this as a need for not only Carleston but also across the district. The council collaborated on using Character Strong activities that link back to the monthly focus as a resource. The campus Principal supported this initiative by writing in 10 minutes to each schedule for their Morning Meeting Time.
Implementing: Through collaboration with other counselors, Mrs. LeMaire was able to create and send out Morning Meetings for every day that have a strong character focus that helps build community in each class and build Pearland proud.
Evaluating: Mrs. LeMaire reviewed the results of the of the teacher and student surveys with the council. It is noted that stronger classroom community occurred with this intentional Morning Meeting time built in with the resources that were crated and provided by Mrs. LeMaire.
