Biography

Carina Rebello joined Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) in summer 2022 as an Assistant Professor in Physics, bringing her expertise is science pedagogy. Prior to arriving to TMU, she was an Assistant Professor of Practice in the department of Physics & Astronomy and an Affiliated Faculty Member for Center for Advancing Teaching and Learning of STEM (CATALYST) at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, USA. She currently holds an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Practice position at Purdue University to hold National Science Foundation (NSF) research grants and continue to mentoring graduate students.

Professor Rebello takes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of teaching and learning. Her research draws on research in other fields, such as the learning sciences, psychology, cognitive science, and the use of technology in physics education, to study the dynamics of learning and to develop models of how physics students think. She applies these models to tackle a broad range of issues related to physics education, with a strong focus on transfer of learning to unique contexts, evidence-based reasoning, scientific argumentation, design thinking, and problem solving.

Outside of work, Professor Rebello loves travelling, hiking, cooking and learning about new cuisines. She loves to practice yoga and has completed 200 HR yoga teacher training certification. Professor Rebello grew up in the U.S. Midwest where she enjoyed horseback riding and showing Arabian horses. Now, she enjoys any outdoor activity and exploring new experiences.
