Have you ever been told "I don't know why anyone would do that" when you told someone you are a stay-at-home mum because they asked you what you do? Or have you ever felt guilty about dropping your kids off at daycare because you are rushing off to work? Or worse yet, has a side comment from another mum made you feel lesser for the choice you made?
While we initially talked about starting a Podcast because we have 8 kids, 2 busy households, 20 years of parenting between us and a bucket load of tips and tricks... our "why" soon morphed into something much bigger. We heard comments from guests and listeners alike along the tune of "I love that you chat about relatable topics from both perspectives" and "I love that you are friends despite choosing such different ways to be a mum".
Motherhood today - navigating the constant intrusive changes of technology, the fear of online bullying, the overload of information making us feel like every decision is going to ruin our children is hard enough as it is.
If you're a stay-at-home mum then you're not contributing to society, you're uneducated, you do nothing and have all the time in the world.
If you're a working mum then you're selfish for maintaining your career goals and aspirations, you're not spending enough time with your kids and allowing daycare staff to raise them.
While of course, this is not true for either mums, these are often the attitudes we hear and the ways in which our choices are questioned.
This is where Careers & Cartwheels comes in. We are here to challenge these negative and judgemental attitudes. Through our relatable chats we hope to build empathy and understanding between all mums so we can stand up for each other, respect each other's choices and cheer each other on!
